big personnel developments to report: The appointment of Anant Joshi as
Director of Sales & Marketing and the promotion of his predecessor,
William
Clarke, to Regional Director of Sales for Davidson Hotel Company, which
operates the property. Both bring a world of sales experience and
success to
their new positions. Anant Joshi As Director of Sales & Marketing, Joshi is responsible for all sales and marketing efforts for Hyatt Regency Newport, including devising and implementing innovative strategies for increasing guest and meeting traffic. A Rhode Island resident, Joshi arrived from Marriott International, where an 11-year run saw him holding positions focused on domestic and international sales including Regional Director of Global Sales, Asia Pacific Region; and Area Director of Sales and Marketing, Caribbean and Latin America. Previously, Joshi held sales management positions with Sonesta Hotels and Resorts, Walt Disney Resorts and Marriott's Orlando World Center. He started in hospitality as a Night Resort Manager in 1980 with South Seas Resorts in Captiva Island, Florida. Joshi earned an Associate Degree in Food Technology from Food Craft Institute in Bangalore, India and an Associate Degree in Hotel Management from Hinds Community College in Jackson, Mississippi. William Clarke As Regional Director of Sales for Davidson Hotel Company, William Clarke will oversee the sales efforts for eight hotels in the Eastern US including Hyatt Regency Newport. He joined Hyatt Regency Newport as Director of Sales and Marketing in 2007, bringing more than 20 years of hospitality industry experience with renowned brands including Hyatt, Marriott, Doubletree, Dolce and BedandBreakfast.com. An active and engaged hospitality professional, Clarke has served as Chairman of the Newport County Chamber of Commerce, Chairman of the Academy of Travel & Tourism/Newport Career & Technical School, and Treasurer of the Newport & Bristol County CVB. Clarke earned a Bachelor of Science Degree in Hotel Administration from the University of New Hampshire. In his new role, he will continue to work out of Newport County.
