News for the Hospitality Executive
NEW YORK, NEW YORK (February 16, 2011) – This year brings exciting changes to The Michelangelo hotel in New York City: Glenda Simmons has been appointed General Manager, effective immediately. Simmons assumes the role after having spent fourteen years as Hotel Manager at The Michelangelo.
“As we looked to the future, we recognized the need for a leader that understood our brand’s uniquely Italian approach to hospitality and how to blend this with innovation to ensure continued success in the competitive New York market,” said Ms. Elisabetta Fabri, President of Starhotels International, owners of The Michelangelo. “Glenda’s tenure at The Michelangelo, combined with her dynamic personality and staunch work ethic, makes her the ideal choice.”
A native of Trinidad and Tobago, Simmons immigrated to the United States in 1980. She thought her vocation was to be a teacher. She instead gravitated towards a profession that had been instilled in her throughout her upbringing: hospitality. While living with her grandparent’s, a home that was always filled with extended family and guests, Simmons learned the secrets to creating an environment that is both welcoming and nourishing for the mind and spirit. Simmons has utilized this knowledge throughout her more than 30-year career while holding senior level positions at some of New York’s top hotels including: the Regency Hotel and The Mayfair Regent Hotel (prior to its conversion into luxury condominiums.)
“My approach has always been to create an indelible impression with each guest so they can not help but return, and The Michelangelo is the perfect canvas for this,” said Simmons. “I am excited to use to the fullest the creativity of our dedicated team members to achieve this goal. In the coming months we will seek to expand upon the hotel’s solid reputation with exciting new dining offerings, amenities, and more.”
Located amidst the bright lights of Manhattan’s Theater District and steps from Rockefeller Center, the boutiques of Fifth and Madison Avenues, and the buzz of Times Square, The Michelangelo exudes the old world charm of an Italian Grande Dame hotel . It has all the modern touches that today’s urban travelers have come to expect. It is part of the Italian based Starhotels group. The Michelangelo Hotel is the brand’s first luxury property in the United States.
