The 2002 Olympic Winter Games attracted thousands of visitors
to Salt Lake City. Of those visitors,a number of major clients stayed at
the City Center Marriott -and were particularly excited by one key service:Guest-Teks
high-speed Internet access.
Shortly before the 2002 Salt Lake Winter Games, the Marriott had Guest-Teks high-speed solution installed in its 359 guest rooms and 14 meeting rooms. Susan Liston, director of sales and marketing for the property, says that with other major hotels in the area already offering the service, high-speed Internet access was some thing her property couldnt afford to do without. Offering HSIA was critical to servicing the hotels business with two major clients, the European Broadcasting Union and AT&T. Ensuring that we would provide high-speed Internet access during the Olympics was part of our contractual agreements with a number of major clients, says Liston. Liston says HSIA has been generating excellent feedback from guests. High-speed Internet access has been a big winner with our customers, and they re pleasantly surprised to see the service is complimentary in our guest rooms, unlike other downtown hotels that charge for it. Liston adds her hotel is already seeing an increase in repeat business thanks to the new service. In addition to high-speed in the guest room, the City Center Marriott is focusing increased attention on promoting the service in its meeting rooms. Liston says her Catering Department aims to ensure meeting planners and others are aware of the benefits the service has to offer, and will be pricing it competitively. The initiative couldnt be coming at a better time: according to a recent Successful Meetings survey*, high-speed Internet access is one of the top two amenities meeting planners are looking for at a hotel or meeting site. *State of the Industry, Successful Meetings, Jan.2001, p.12. |
