HSMAI's 2001 Chapter Hall of Fame Award Presented
to Chapter Norway
-
WASHINGTON, DC (April 26, 2002) The 22nd Annual Hospitality Sales & Marketing Association International (HSMAI) Frank W. Berkman Chapter Award Program was presented at the Annual HSMAI Chapter Leadership Forum held yesterday in Orlando.  More than 100 HSMAI leaders representing chapters in the Americas joined with the International Board of Directors to recognize the Best-of-the-Best in chapter practices.

The 2001 Chapter Award Competition inaugurated the new Chapter Hall of Fame Award.  Chapter Norway became the first inductee in this prestigious recognition for becoming the inspiration and role model for HSMAI chapter development in eight European countries.

The competition (for the 2001 calendar year) included 50 entries from 15 chapters in seven categories: Awards & Recognition, Communications, Customer Event/Marketplace, Educational Programming, Fundraising/Involvement,
Leadership/Partnership Development, and Membership Development/Retention.  This competition also featured the first competition separating chapters into large and small categories for recognition.

Judging took place in New York City during the Annual Travel Awards Dinner in January.  Entries were judged independently by International Board members and Chapter Leaders.  First place winners received a cash award and were further recognized by having their entries published in the new edition of the Best of the Best Manual.

Second place winners received an engraved crystal pillar award.

This program provides an ideal avenue to recognize HSMAI chapters that have displayed exemplary talent and achievement in various categories of chapter operation over the past year, states Robert A. Gilbert, CHME, CHA, president and CEO of HSMAI.  Furthermore, it is a way for chapters to learn about what their peers are doing, and at the same time, challenges them to be even more creative and innovative in their programming and initiatives.
