Homewood Suites® by Hilton Opens First Hotel
Conversion Hotel In Oakland, California

-
MEMPHIS, Tenn., February 25, 2002 Homewood Suites by Hilton, the national brand of upscale, all-suite, residential-style hotels, today announced that it  has completed and opened its first hotel conversion project, the 140-suite Homewood Suites by Hilton hotel in Oakland, Calif. The hotel is owned by Oakland Hospitality, Inc (contact: John Pryor, Oakland Hospitality, 970-728-6283) and operated under a franchise license agreement with Promus Hotels, Inc., the franchise subsidiary of Beverly Hills-based Hilton Hotels Corporation.

Recently, we have been approached by a number of existing owners of non-Homewood extended-stay hotels who want to participate in the brands growth and success.   After careful consideration, we have modified our strategy to very selectively allow conversions of existing hotels to Homewood Suites by Hilton hotels with a goal of accepting a limited number of conversions.  It gives the development community another opportunity to participate in a growing Hilton
Homewoods strategy will remain first and foremost to focus on new builds.  However, the brand will now consider on a very selective basis
conversion candidates.  Criteria include location, demand generators and physical attributes of the actual hotel.

brand that has a strong appeal with extended-stay travelers, said Jim Holthouser, senior vice-president of brand management, Homewood Suites by Hilton.

The Homewood Suites by Hilton Oakland-Waterfront hotel was an ideal conversion candidate because of its spectacular location and unique design that combines the best of waterfront design and Homewood Suites by Hilton prototype standards.  Converted prior to the construction phase, the project was originally designed as another extended stay product when Homewood Suites by Hilton was approached by the developer for consideration as a conversion candidate.

Located at 1103 Embarcadero Drive, the hotel is within minutes from the Oakland Airport, Oakland Coliseum, Downtown Oakland and Jack London Square.  Situated directly off the 880 freeway, the hotel offers a spectacular sunset view looking through the swaying masts of the marina into the Oakland harbor.  The conversion was enhanced by the willingness of the franchisee to meet and sometimes exceed our Homewood Suites by Hilton standards.  All aspects of the brands core attributes are represented in this unique waterfront Homewood Suites by Hilton hotel, said Holthouser.

The three-story Homewood Suites by Hilton Oakland-Waterfront hotel offers residential-style suites with spacious sleeping and living areas that are large enough for work, study, entertaining or relaxing.  Attractive guest amenities include a complimentary breakfast buffet in the hotels hospitality center called the Lodge, an evening managers reception Monday through Thursday with a complimentary light meal and beverages*, a 24-hour executive business center, exercise facilities and a 24-hour Suite Shop convenience store.

Additional hotel amenities include an outdoor pool, on-demand movies and 820 square feet of meeting space.  Each suite of the hotel has a fully equipped kitchen, featuring a microwave oven, full-size refrigerator, twin-burner stove, dishwasher and all the necessary pots, pans and utensils.

Suites also contain a remote-controlled television, an iron/ironing board, and two telephones with dual lines and data ports.  Homewood Suites by Hilton backs its quality and value with its 100% Satisfaction Guarantee, which states if guests are not satisfied with their stay, then that nights stay is free.

The Homewood Suites by Hilton brand is part of Hilton Hotels Corporation, recognized internationally as a preeminent hospitality company.  The company develops, owns, manages or franchises more than 2,000 hotels, resorts and vacation ownership properties.  Its portfolio includes many of the worlds best known and most highly regarded hotel brands, including Hilton®, Conrad?, Doubletree®, Embassy Suites Hotels®, Hampton Inn®, Hampton Inn & Suites®, Harrison Conference Centers®, Hilton Garden Inn®, Hilton Grand Vacations Company® and Homewood Suites® by Hilton.
