By Sapir Peretz, Globes, Tel Aviv, IsraelMcClatchy-Tribune Regional News May 29--"The target is to reach ten million tourists a year within a decade," said Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu at the Second Jerusalem Tourism Conference today. He added, "What we're doing in the tourism industry is exciting. We've doubled the number of tourists from 1.5 million to three million a year, and we need to double this number and continue growth." "The first step we did in the government was to adopt the Open Skies policy, and in the budget discussions, we removed the proposal to levy VAT on tourism services. We did this as part of our commitment to tourism and its importance to our economy," said Netanyahu. Minister of the Economy Naftali Bennett said, "Three million tourists out of a potential of one billion is few. We can do much better." ___ (c)2013 the Globes (Tel Aviv, Israel) Visit the Globes (Tel Aviv, Israel) at www.globes.co.il/serveen/globes/nodeview.asp?fid=942 Distributed by MCT Information Services |
