BRIEF: Rio plans zipline ride between two towers (Las Vegas Sun)

By Ed Komenda, Las Vegas SunMcClatchy-Tribune Regional News

May 23--Imagine this: You're soaring 400 feet above the Las Vegas Strip, strung on a zipline between the Rio's two towers.

Now, come back to reality, where the Rio All-Suite Hotel & Casino plans to roll out the VooDoo Skyline this summer.

The two-seater zip ride starts at the VooDoo Lounge, atop the Rio's 50-story Masquerade tower. From there, riders zip along about 800 feet -- reaching a top-speed of 33 mph -- before coming to a short rest at the Rio's Ipanema tower.

But it doesn't stop there. From the Ipanema tower, riders are launched backward toward where they started.

From start to finish, the ride lasts one minute and 10 seconds.

The VooDoo Skyline is the brainchild of New Venture Capital partners Joe Shortal and Jonathan Borchetta, and Stan Checketts, who has created more than 200 amusement rides.

"When developing VooDoo Skyline, we sought to create a one-of-a-kind, adrenaline-packed Vegas experience," Shortal said in a statement.

VooDoo Skyline -- which will bring about 40 jobs to the area -- will be open 7 days a week, offering rides from noon to midnight.
