Developers break ground on hotel near Seminole Square (The Daily Progress, Charlottesville, Va.)

The Daily Progress, Charlottesville, Va.McClatchy-Tribune Regional News

May 23--Ground was broken Wednesday for a new Homewood Suites hotel at 2036 India Road in Charlottesville.

The hotel is scheduled for completion in April 2014. It will have 149 studio and one-bedroom suites, all with living areas and full kitchens. The four-story, 110,000-square-foot building will occupy a parcel of land where a recently demolished movie theater previously stood.

Other amenities at the upscale extended stay hotel will include a fitness center, an indoor pool and spa, a 24-hour executive business center and meeting space.

"We are excited to bring this luxury Hilton hotel to the Charlottesville area and feel guests visiting the Charlottesville-Albemarle area will be impressed with all of the amenities Homewood Suites has to offer,"' Scott Goldenberg of Staunton-based Heritage Hospitality Management said in an announcement.

Heritage Hospitality Management owns and operates the Hilton Garden Inn of Charlottesville; the Hampton Inns of Staunton, Waynesboro and Lexington; and the Residence Inns by Marriott of Harrisonburg and Waynesboro.

City officials earlier this month said a planned extension of Hillsdale Drive would be built through a portion of the hotel property. Advertisement for construction on the entire $30.5 million road project, which ultimately will stretch from Greenbrier Drive to Hydraulic Road, is slated to begin in 2015.
