| By Joel Landau, The Press of Atlantic City, Pleasantville, N.J.McClatchy-Tribune Regional News May 10--The state has filed a lawsuit against a Galloway Township hotel alleging it of price gouging during Hurricane Sandy by 283 percent. The state Division of Consumer Affairs announced the lawsuit Friday. It was filed against Devsatya, Inc., which owns Studio Inn & Suites, on East White Horse Pike in Galloway Township. The state alleges the business gouged prices by as much as 283 percent on 183 occasions between Oct. 27 and Nov. 13, "The victims of price gouging are families who were displaced from their homes, desperate for shelter, heat, and fuel as a result of the most severe natural disaster in New Jersey's history," Eric T. Kanefsky, acting Director of the State Division of Consumer Affairs, said in a statement. "We owe it to these New Jersey residents to see every allegation of price gouging to its proper end." The state's Attorney General's Office said it received more than 2,000 consumer complaints following the storm.
