By Mary Perez, The Sun HeraldMcClatchy-Tribune Regional News April 23--BILOXI -- The White House Hotel, which has sat empty along the beach for decades, has been sold. Crews are at the property at the corner of U.S. 90 and White Avenue Tuesday clearing the site and preparing for construction. The city issued a permit Tuesday to Barrington Development LLC of Ridgeland, the buyers of the property, to restore the facade of the building to its historic look. The hotel dates back to the turn of the 20th Century, when several cottages were connected and the building was transformed into a luxury resort. James Love, Jr., bought the White House Hotel in 1940 from the White family of Biloxi and after his death, his family continued to search for a developer who would restore the property.
