Hotel project eyed for Rainbow Boulevard (Niagara Gazette, Niagara Falls, N.Y.)

Niagara Gazette, Niagara Falls, N.Y.McClatchy-Tribune Regional News

April 17--Another new hotel project is in the works in the city of Niagara Falls.

The board of directors for the Niagara County Industrial Development Agency is expected to consider an application for assistance today from Plati Niagara Inc., LLC, a firm owned by the Strangio family, operators of the Quality Inn Hotel franchise and Antonio's Banquet and Conference Center on Niagara Falls Boulevard.

A released issued by the NCIDA on Tuesday said Plati Niagara plans to construct an "upscale hotel under a national franchise" on a parcel of land located at 333 Rainbow Blvd. in Niagara Falls.

The application marks the latest in a series that have been submitted to the NCIDA by developers seeking help with hotel projects in the city.

Last month, NCIDA board members approved applications for assistance from Maid of the Mist Hospitality, LLC, which is planning to invest $4 million to refurbish the Comfort Inn-The Pointe at One Prospect Pointe, and Indian Ocean, LLC, a firm owned by local hotelier B.F. Patel that is investing $6.65 million to convert the old Moore Business Forms building at 900 Buffalo Ave. into a Courtyard Marriott Hotel.

In addition to the Plati Niagara project, the NCIDA board is expected to receive an application for assistance from Power Greenhouse Integration, LLC, for a greenhouse renovation project in the Town of Wheatfield. Power Greenhouse Integration, LLC (PGI) plans to purchase a 12.5 acre greenhouse at 7341Shawnee Road in the Town of Wheatfield and fully renovate it.

NCIDA officials said both the hotel project and the greenhouse project will generate roughly $33 million of investment combined while creating 88 new jobs and 30 part-time jobs as well as temporary construction jobs.

The board of directors will also vote on the applications for assistance for three projects that were submitted at the March 2013 meeting: Diversified Manufacturing, which plans to consolidate its Amherst operations to Lockport; Lake Effect Ice Cream, an ice cream manufacturer that plans to renovate a building at 79/81 Canal St. in Lockport and KI PO Automotive in Ransomville, which is working on the development of a 4,300-square-foot addition to its property.
