BRIEF: Another hotel possible with zone change (Glasgow Daily Times, Ky.)

By Melinda J. Overstreet, Glasgow Daily Times, Ky.McClatchy-Tribune Regional News

April 17--GLASGOW -- If two area businessmen have their way, Glasgow could have a new hotel.

The proposed project cleared one hurdle Monday evening, as the Joint City-County Planning Commission agreed to allow a zone change from light industrial to general business for one of two pieces of property where it would sit. The adjoining parcel to the east was already zoned as general business. Both lots are vacant.

Planning Director Kevin Myatt summarized the staff report for the commission, noting that the proposed use is in agreement with the Comprehensive Plan's Land Use Projection Map, which recommends the property be zoned for commercial use, and it would be among several other businesses. The hotel would be next door to Axis Salon & Spa on Wall Street. Looking from the direction of North L. Roger Wells Boulevard, it would be behind BB&T, O'Reilly Auto Parts and Tire Pros, which all face Smith Road, the access road that runs parallel with Wells Boulevard. It would also be behind El Mazatlan restaurant on West Cherry Street.
