Alberto Blanca Appointed General Manager at the Renovated Meliá Zaragoza
September, 2000 - Coinciding with the renovation of the Meliá Zaragoza, Sol Meliá has appointed Alberto Blanca as the hotel�s new General Manager. Alberto Blanca holds a Diploma in Tourism Management from the University of Jerez de la Frontera (Cadiz).

The new manager of the Meliá Zaragoza began his career in 1990, joining the Sol Meliá, Management Development Programme, before going on to work in the Gran Meliá Salinas (Lanzarote) and Meliá Cohiba (Havana, Cuba). Before joining the Meliá Zaragoza he was General Manager of the Sol Club Cayo Coco and Meliá Cayo Coco (Cuba), as well as Regional Manager for Jardines del Rey (Cayo Coco and Cayo Guillermo, Cuba).

According to Blanca, �my main objective at the Meliá Zaragoza will be to improve the product and service quality provided by the hotel in the light of the renovation, aiming to recover its charisma and its position as one of the most emblematic hotels in the capital of Aragon�. He adds that, �we will be doing everything in our power to ensure the hotel becomes a point of reference for all of the people of Zaragoza and the visitors to the city�.
 

The Meliá Zaragoza Hotel has just ended the first stage of an ambitious renovation programme which has included, amongst other things, the renewal of the hotel façade and the redecoration of 160 guestrooms, public areas and the Executive Floor. The total investment for the renovation is over 1,000 million pesetas � 6 million euros -, and the second stage of the work is due to end in December.

the luxury rooms at the Meliá Zaragoza. All rooms now provide intelligent lighting, automatic curtains, private music system, independent temperature remote control, intelligent minibar, electric towel heater, outsize bathtub (1,70 x 80) and anti-steam mirrors. The suites also supply a hydromassage bathtub.

The final stage of the renovation due to begin this month will include, amongst other things, the redecoration of the remaining 88 guestrooms, the Piccadilly Bar, the �à la carte� and buffet restaurants with show-cooking facilities and hotel meeting facilities. In addition the hotel will also be adding a new gymnasium and a Business Centre with 4 private offices and 3 extra meeting rooms for up to 25 guests. The Meliá Zaragoza will also be specially adapting 5 of its guestrooms for disabled guests in line with Sol Meliá policy and supported by the Association for the Disabled of Aragon.
