The Spanish Institute for Hotel Quality Awards the "Quality Certification" to The Melia Sierra Nevada

August, 1999 - The Meliá Sierra Nevada Hotel in the southern Spanish province of Granada, managed by the Spanish hotel company Sol Meliá, has become the first Spanish ski hotel to receive Quality Certification from the Spanish Institute for Hotel Quality, allowing the hotel to display their Q for quality sign at the hotel entrance, guaranteeing the optimum quality of the products and services provided within.

The Quality Certification is part of an ambitious project being sponsored by the Spanish government aimed at providing special recognition for those hotels that comply with a rigorous range of quality standards. These standards have been created by the numerous Spanish Hotel Associations and by experts in the trade with the objective of raising quality in Spanish hotels in general, making hotel quality a key competitive advantage for the country and responding to the increasing expectations of ever-more discerning hotel guests.

The four-star Meliá Sierra Nevada has recently completed the total renovation of all of its facilities, involving an investment of 500 million pesetas, and making the hotel one of the finest available in this Spanish ski resort.

Nine Sol Meliá hotels have currently been awarded the Q for Quality from the Spanish Institute for Hotel Quality the Meliá Sierra Nevada, the Gran Meliá Don Pepe (Marbella), the Bahía del Duque Gran Meliá (Tenerife), the Meliá Zaragoza (Zaragoza), the Meliá Granada (Granada), the Sol Príncipe-Principito, the Meliá Costa del Sol and the Sol Élite Aloha Puerto (all three in Malaga) and the Sol Magalluf Park (Balearic Islands) while a further nine hotels are awaiting the dates for the compulsory Quality Audits.

The final stage of the renovation of the Meliá Sierra Nevada also includes the adaptation of the hotel to the needs of the business meetings market. Once work is completed, the hotel will provide a total of 7 meeting rooms with capacity for up to 300 guests.

The Meliá Sierra Nevada will thus offer an incomparable setting for meetings and other events that can be combined with excellent skiing conditions and a wide range of additional leisure facilities. The hotel is located only 100 metres from the Sierra Nevada ski lifts, and also provides a restaurant, snack bar, piano bar, heated swimming pool, sauna, jacuzzi, Turkish bath, gymnasium, hairdresser, ski storage room, shopping gallery and discotheque, amongst other services.
