Johnson & Wales University Now Offers Degree
with Emphasis in Golf Management
NORTH MIAMI, Fla. - Sept. 6, 2000 --This fall registration marks the launch of Johnson & Wales Universitys bachelor degree in Sports/Entertainment/Event Management with a concentration in Golf Management. We are extremely pleased, said Dr.  Donald G. McGregor, president of the Florida Campus. Already we have over 40 students enrolled in the program that we developed this January. As Americas Career University®, we research and design programs of study to parallel what industry is lacking. Studies show that the golf industry generates billions of dollars of revenue annually throughout the country and there isnt enough qualified people to run the country clubs and resorts. Johnson & Wales University is simply supplying the demand.

Golf is increasingly becoming corporate Americas favorite pastime, and with the recent rise of Tigermania more and more juniors are joining the golfing ranks. Students who enrolled this fall will earn a $3,000 annual inaugural scholarship for up to four years.

A recent article in Corporate & Incentive Travel (December 1999), points out that because the game is so embedded into the incentive and meeting culture, you would think that planners at incentive houses, corporations, and independent companies would know the rudiments of putting together tournaments and other golf events. In fact, many planners have yet to learn the basics of organizing golf-related events.

Students who pursue the Golf Management concentration will gain knowledge and prepare to manage a country club, organize major tournaments or own a golf course. In addition to management skills, Johnson & Wales Universitys unique hands-on components provide students with the opportunity to play golf and better their game.
Within the Golf Management concentration, students will be offered courses in Golf Course Design and Construction, Golf Operations Management, Turfgrass Management, and Private Club Management.

Industry partners, including Arnold Palmer Golf Management, Doral Resort & Spa, International Links of Miami, and Miami Shores Country Club, have committed to make this program relevant to industry while affording graduates the opportunity to pursue a career in an exciting, growth industry, added McGregor.

Johnson & Wales University, founded in 1914 in Providence, Rhode Island, is the worlds foremost foodservice and hospitality educator, providing education for tomorrows industry leaders. The Florida Campus offers two- and four-year degrees in the College of Culinary Arts, the College of Business and the Hospitality College. Johnson & Wales University maintains a 98%(a) employment rate within 60 days of graduation.
