Radisson SAS Assigned Management Contract for
The Diplomat Hotel in Manama, Bahrain;
Le Meridien Hotels Had Managed Hotel for the Past 25 Years
July 2000.....Today, in a landmark signing ceremony in Bahrain, Radisson SAS Hotels & Resorts took management control of The Diplomat Hotel in Manama, Bahrain.

The signing marks the award winning chains entry into Bahrain and takes the chains Middle and Near East network to seven properties with three more under construction in Egypt.

Bahrain has long since proved its tourism potential both for leisure and business travellers and we have wanted to be part of this growth, said Kurt Ritter, President & CEO, Radisson SAS Hotels & Resorts. The Diplomat is a landmark hotel which has a strong and loyal following of guests who we will continue to care for in genuine Radisson SAS style.

Located in the heart of the diplomatic district of Bahrains capital, The Diplomat has 246 rooms made up of 23 suites, 32 Royal Club rooms, 22 superior rooms and 166 standard rooms. The property also has seven restaurants and bars and is particularly renowned for its banqueting and conferencing facilities, the largest in Bahrain. The hotel also has a health club complete with outdoor swimming pool, tennis and squash courts and a gym. Radisson SAS Hotels & Resorts takes the contract from Le Meridien Hotels & Resorts which has managed the property for the past 25 years.

First, I wish to praise the long-lasting relationship we have so far enjoyed with Le Meridien over some considerable time, said Ahmed Zayani, Chairman, National Hotels Company, owners of The Diplomat.  However, due to some exceptional circumstances, both National Hotels Company and Le Meridien decided to amicably end the contract in order to move in new directions.

Radisson SAS Hotels & Resorts was chosen following careful consideration, given its active presence in the feeder markets and its potential expansion worldwide and in particular, the Middle East area, he added.

With immediate effect The Diplomat will be re-branded and known as The Diplomat Radisson SAS Hotel. Refurbishment of the property is planned, including all guest rooms, restaurants and bars, added Kurt Ritter.

In the Middle and Near East, Radisson SAS Hotels & Resorts currently operates properties in Amman, Aqaba, Baku, Dubai, Istanbul, Kuwait and Muscat. Three properties in Egypt, in Taba, Hurghada and Sharm El Sheikh are due on line within the next year.
