  California Lodging Industry Association Will Honor 
U. S. Commerce Secretary, Norman Y. Mineta 
with the Public Official of the Year Award

Sacramento, CA. Aug. 22,2000 - California Lodging Industry Association � CLIA - will present U. S. Commerce Secretary, Norman Y. Mineta with its coveted Public Official of the Year Award, at ceremonies during its upcoming Annual Educational Conference, September 15-16, in Santa Clara, CA. CLIA will also present its Annual Excellence in Lodging Awards, and two educational scholarships, it was announced by Board President Chris Middleton.

United States Department of Commerce Secretary, and ten-term former U. S. Congressman, Norman Y. Mineta, will be honored for his years of public service, and contributions to the national and California transportation systems. �Mr. Mineta�s dedication to surface and air transportation growth and improvements have brought tremendous benefits to the California lodging and hospitality industry. We proudly recognize his years of service and leadership�, said Middleton added.

CLIA will also present Annual Excellence in Lodging Awards by an Owner or Operator and by a lodging property staff person, along with the President�s Award for contributions to the California lodging industry and the Association. Two CLIA scholarships will be awarded to worthy California College students pursuing careers in the lodging and hospitality industry.

CLIA Annual Educational Conference will be held at the Westin - Santa Clara Hotel, September 15-16, in conjunction with the Western Lodging Show, September 16-17.
