Lenôtre Bringing Six Chefs from Paris to Cater for
Club France at 2000 Sydney Olympics

10 August 2000: Frances leading caterer and purveyor of fine foods, Lenôtre, will make its debut in Australia, when they cater for the French Olympic Committees hospitality centre, Club France, during the 2000 Sydney Olympic Games.

Major events are a specialty of Lenôtre, who provided catering services at all official sites throughout France during the 1998 World Cup - which France won.
In Sydney, Lenôtre will concentrate on providing its fine-cuisine range for athletes, federations, sponsors, journalists and guests at Club France, which is being established in an historic building in the heart of The Rocks. The building, at 100 George Street, currently houses the Billich art gallery, which will be completely transformed for the duration of the Games.

Club France will comprise a restaurant with a large patio area ideal for cocktails, a reception area for functions, and a TV studio, which will be used for interviewing medal-winning French athletes. In the 1996 Atlanta Games, France was sixth on the medal tally list, with 37 medals, including 15 gold medals (Australia won 9 gold).

During the two weeks, Lenôtre anticipates serving 10,000 meals - a relatively easy assignment compared to the 40,000 meals they served daily during the 1998 World Cup. All produce served at Club France will be sourced locally, except for 500kg of cheese, 10,000 bottles of wine and champagne, and 800kg of chocolate, which will be imported from France.

Lenôtres Chairman of the Management Board, Patrick Scicard, will launch Lenôtres debut Australian venture on 15 September, 2000.

Lenôtre will bring a team of six chefs from Paris, under executive chef Fabrice Prochasson. They will create Lenôtres memorable pastries, chocolates, desserts and other dishes, in co-operation with locally-employed chefs and the catering department of the East Sydney Institute. In the true spirit of co-operation, Lenôtre, will train young Australian chefs at the Institute in their dessert and pastry techniques, and these apprentices will then visit France in 2001 to compete in the World Pastry Championships.

A luxury label for French hotel and tourism group Accor, Lenôtre plays a leading role in the world of gastronomy. The company was established by Gaston Lenôtre, who gained fame in the 1950s and 1960s as Frances most talented and innovative pastry chef. His first pastry shop opened in 1957, and the catering business followed in 1964.

Today, the House of Lenôtre comprises 43 retail outlets in France and abroad, a vast catering operation (they handle over 6,000 functions annually) and three prestigious restaurants in Paris, including Pré Catelan, which was awarded a second Michelin star in 1999).

Lenôtre is also a great trainer of culinary staff, with the Lenôtre Culinary School attracting more than 3,000 professionals annually from around the world.  Recently, Lenôtre opened a school in Paris for amateur enthusiasts.
A lenotre.fr web site is set to be launched shortly, with Lenôtre products available for sale via the net. In addition, Lenôtre products are available in French supermarkets under the brand Une Recette Lenôtre.

Lenôtre is owned by Accor, the worlds largest hotel, tourism and catering services company. Accor is also Australias largest hotel and tourism company, with 93 hotels ranging from 5-star Sofitel hotels through to budget hotels.
