William Weld of Allegiant Named Chairman 
at HSMAI for 2000-01
WASHINGTON, DC (August 1,2000) - The HSMAI Nominating Committee officially announced the organization's new Executive Committee officers and Board of Directors. The new leadership became effective at the start of the annual HSMAI Sales & Marketing Summit last week, which marked the beginning of the 2000-2001 administrative year.

The new seven-member Executive Committee includes:

  • Chairman: William (Bill) Weld, CHME, vice president of sales and marketing, Allegiant.
  • Chairman-elect: Bruce Himelstein, senior vice president, sales and marketing, Marriott Senior Living Services
  • Vice Chair: Erica Kasel, CHME, executive director of marketing, Leading Hotels of the World
  • Vice Chair: Maureen O'Hanlon, vice president, Carlson Marketing Group
  • Treasurer: John W.R. Bradley, CHME, senior vice president, integrated marketing, Universal Studios
  • Immediate Past Chair: Peter Warren, CHME, president, Warren/Kremer/CMP
  • HSMAI Foundation Chair: Salvatore Dickinson, vice president of marketing, Meristar Hotels & Resorts
"We are so fortunate to have such talented and influential individuals committed to HSMAI," said Bob Gilbert, CHME, CHA, president and CEO of HSMAI.

"With such prominent professionals in these leadership roles, and with Bill at the helm, HSMAI and our members are sure to benefit from their experience, creativity, innovation and excellence," he added.

William {Bill) Weld joined Allegiant this past March to oversee all sales and marketing efforts and to grow Allegiant's national portfolio (Earlier this year, Telerent Lodging Systems bought Middle Georgia Corp. and merged both companies to form Allegiant, which is based in Raleigh, NC). With over 25 years of experience in the hospitality industry, Weld most recently served as vice president international sales and service with Cendant Corporation. During his tenure there, Weld was responsible for expanding the Cendant International Hotel brands into the global marketplace as well as overseeing 17 Cendant international sales offices.

The Board of Directors serve a two-year term Those beginning new terms are:

  • David Atkins, director of hospitality business marketing, Expedia; 
  • Peter Bonnell, CLIME, vice president, sales and marketing, Colonial Williamsburg; 
  • Warren Breaux, vice president of marketing, Opryland Hotel; 
  • Chuck Brownfield, senior vice president of marketing and sales, Bass Hotels & Resorts; 
  • Ingunn Hofseth, executive vice president, HSMAI Chapter Norway; 
  • Gary Leopold, CHME, president and CEO, Irma S. Mann, Strategic Marketing, Inc.; 
  • Joel Ann Rea
  • Jack Schmidt, vice president of sales and marketing Benchmark Hospitality 
  • Emelie Smith, vice president, global airline strategy, American Express International; 
  • Ed Trost, vice president, American Golf Corporation; and 
  • Joanne Winter, executive director, Greater Phoenix Chapter of HSMAI.
Those continuing on the Board are: 
  • Tom Allee, national director of sales and distribution, Frontier Airlines; 
  • Catherine (Cam) Cooper, partner, Blackshaw, Olmstead, Lynch & Koenig; 
  • Donna Sue Davis, director of resort and park sales, Disneyland Resort; 
  • Chris Guidone, director of international sales, Philadelphia Convention & Visitors Bureau; 
  • Flo Lugli, president, WizCom International; 
  • Greg Malark, senior vice president of marketing, TravelCLICK; 
  • Hans Poortvliet, managing director, HSMAI Chapter Holland; and 
  • Clayton Reid, president, MMG Worldwide. 
Continuing as a representative of the Past Chairman's Council is 
  • David Troy, president of TIMA Corporation.
