The Norwegian Chapter Honored with HSMAIs
Frank W. Berkman Global Chapter of the Year Award
WASHINGTON, DC (August 29, 2000) - The Norwegian Chapter of the Hospitality Sales & Marketing Association International (HSMAI) was named the first ever Frank W. Berkman Global Chapter of the Year at HSMAIs recent Annual Sales & Marketing Summit in New York.  The Greater Phoenix Chapter was named the Frank W. Berkman North American Chapter of the Year.

Robert A. Gilbert, CHME and President and CEO of HSMAI, noted that this new award category truly reflects the global growth of the association.  He noted that Europe has been the fastest growing region of membership for the association, and it now accounts for over 20% of HSMAIs membership. Chapter Norway is also now the largest chapter of HSMAI in the world.

Ingunn Hofseth, Executive Vice President of Chapter Norway, accepted the Global Chapter of the Year award on behalf of the chapter.  The chapter was recognized for outstanding achievements in a number of areas including being the first chapter in the history of HSMAI to exceed the $1 million mark in non-dues revenue activities.

It also achieved an impressive 96.2% membership retention and has successfully positioned HSMAI as the leading association in the country with a wide variety of educational programs and customer marketplace events, which are held annually.

The North American Chapter of the Year award was presented to Phoenix for its leadership and support in adopting and providing guidance to weaker chapters, creative fundraising projects, an innovative internship program, its web site which added value to membership, and an educational program schedule that increased attendance.

Clark B. Rowley, Greater Phoenix Chapter President in 1999, accepted the award and invited HSMAI members to Phoenix/Scottsdale for the Annual Sales & Marketing Summit next June 7-10.

HSMAI also recognizes excellence in chapter operation through its Best of the Best Chapter Award competition.  These chapters and their winning initiatives will be used as models for other chapters throughout the world.  The winners for 1999 in the various disciplines of chapter operation are:
