Sol Meliá Will Manage the Meliá Roma Aurelia
Owned by the Aurelia Centro Company

November, 1999 - Sol Meliá has just signed a contract with the Aurelia Centro company, which will enable the Spanish hotel company to manage its first hotel in the Italian capital: the Meliá Roma Aurelia. This hotel, strategically situated very near the well-known Vía Aurelia in the Italian capital, will have a 4 star rating and will open in July 2000.

According to Mr. Sebastian Escarrer, Vice-President of Sol Meliá, the incorporation of the Meliá Roma Aurelia represents yet another step in the progress of our development programme in the main European cities and capitals and, in this particular case, it is a clear indication of Sol Meliás intention to increase our presence in Italy, a country which welcomed over 60 million tourists in 1998.

In this respect, he continues, our interest in this Mediterranean country began in November 1998 with the acquisition of the Meliá Milano, which has enabled us to continue our expansion in Italy by means of management contracts, such as the Meliá Roma Aurelia. The Meliá Milano, he continues, in which we have invested a total of 7.000 million pesetas 42,07 million Euros will open in September 2000.

The Meliá Roma Aurelia, situated right in the hotel centre of Rome, only 10 minutes from the Vatican City and the capitals historical centre, will have 282 rooms, all offering maximum comfort and the most advanced technology. This city hotel will also offer excellent cuisine, with spacious installations to enable guests to make the most of their leisure time.

The Aurelia Centro company, which owns the hotel, belongs to Citiesse S.R.L., a construction and real estate company pertaining to the prestigious Di Veroli group, which is well-known in Italy.

Sol Meliá invests approx. 7.000 million  pesetas in the acquisition
and renovation of the Meliá Milano

The Meliá Milano, which is due to open in September 2000, was acquired by Sol Meliá in November 1998, for the sum of 4.000 million pesetas 24,04 million Euros. The Spanish hotel group will now invest a further 3.000 million pesetas 18,03 million Euros in the renovation of the property and in its adaptation to the standards of quality for which the Meliá brand name is renowned throughout the world.
