PARSIPPANY, N.J., July 14, 1999 - Howard Johnson International,
Inc., a mid-scale hotel industry leader, announced the signing of an international
master franchise agreement for eight European countries. The agreement
with Premier Hotels, Plc, the current master franchisee for Howard Johnson
in the UK, calls for the development of nearly 40 hotels over the next
five years in Austria, Belgium, Germany, Luxembourg, the Netherlands, Portugal,
Spain and Switzerland. Development is expected to begin in 2001 in Germany
and Austria.
