Appoints Jorgen Christensen, Director of Sales & Marketing
and Jim O’Connell, Director of Sales


PASADENA, Calif. – May 28, 2009 – The Langham, Huntington Hotel & Spa is pleased to announce the appointment of Jorgen Christensen and Jim O’Connell to integral positions within its sales team. Each brings a significant amount of hospitality and sales experience which will continue to strengthen The Langham’s sales efforts locally, regionally and nationally.

Jorgen Christensen joins The Langham, Huntington Hotel & Spa as Director of Sales & Marketing where he will oversee the sales and marketing efforts at the hotel. In 2008, Mr. Christensen was Director of Sales & Marketing for The Langham Place in Beijing, China, where he led the sales efforts during the pre-opening stages of the hotel. He also served as Director of Sales & Marketing for The Langham, Hong Kong, where he was largely responsible for restructuring the sales team and further penetrating international sales efforts for the hotel. From 2006 to 2008, Mr. Christensen worked as Director of Sales & Marketing during the opening of the Shangri-La Hotel in Guangzhou, China, a 704-room hotel near the Guangzhou International Convention Centre. Prior to that position, Mr. Christensen got his start with Langham Hotels International working simultaneously for Eaton Hotels and The Langham Place, Hong Kong, serving as Director of Sales & Marketing during the opening stages.
 
Mr. Christensen has been in the hospitality industry since 1987, working for StarTour, a Scandinavian tour operator, where he guided tours throughout France, Greece, Cyprus, Turkey, Thailand, the Maldives and Florida, in the U.S. He studied Hotel Management at the IHTTI School of Hospitality Management in Neuchatel, Switzerland and got his Bachelor of Arts degree in Hospitality Management from Bournemouth University in England.
 
Jim O’Connell joins The Langham, Huntington Hotel & Spa as Director of Sales where he will oversee the group sales and the business travel departments. Mr. O’Connell has more than 20 years of experience in the hospitality industry – 18 of which have been with Marriott International, holding key positions at the JW Marriott in Atlanta, Marriott’s Grand Hotel, Golf Club & Spa in Point Clear, Alabama, and Marriott’s Marco Island Resort, Golf Club & Spa in Marco Island, Florida. Mr. O’Connell was also with Gaylord Oryland Hotel in Nashville, the largest hotel in the United States outside of Las Vegas, and the Sheraton Buckhead Hotel in Atlanta. Mr. O’Connell is a Certified Meeting Professional since 1994 and was named Associate of the Year in 1993 by the Florida Society of Association Executives. He earned his Bachelor of Arts degree in Economics and General Management from Boston College.
