Hong Kongs Great Eagle Hotel Is Renamed
The Langham Hotel Hong Kong
After The London Legend
.
Hong Kong September 30th 2003 --- From 12.00 midnight tonight, Hong Kongs luxury Great Eagle Hotel will be known as the Langham Hotel, Hong Kong after the historic Langham Hotel, in London.

The name change follows the announcement earlier this year by managing company Great Eagle Hotels International that the group would change its name to Langham Hotels International (LHI) after the Langham Hotel, London (now known as the Langham Hilton) which was purchased by Great Eagle in 1996 and subsequently further upgraded.  LHI is now developing its brand of fine hotels, owned and managed, in Hong Kong and overseas, under the Langham name.

iThe renaming of LHIs Hong Kong flagship also follows a substantial US$35m renovation of the property over the past four years, which has resulted in the creation of a supremely elegant European-style hotel with a contemporary twist.

The Langham Hotel in London is legendary, its name synonymous with gracious hospitality and fine living for over a hundred years. Opened back in 1865 by the Prince of Wales, The Langham was not only Londons first grand hotel, but also the citys largest building at the time.

General Manager, Nigel Roberts, welcomes the new name, saying: The transition to the Langham name provides the ideal platform and additional momentum for us to continue to build on the high standards we have set for ourselves. It also offers us a marvellous opportunity to generate additional awareness and continue to raise the profile of this wonderful hotel.

The Langham Hotel is ideally located in Tsim Sha Tsui, Kowloon in the heart of Hong Kongs most famous shopping and entertainment district and yet maintains the calm ambience of a stylish sanctuary from the hustle and bustle outside.

Each of the 462 rooms and 25 suites has been luxuriously renovated and equipped with the latest technology.  Also part of the renovations were 12 sumptuous Langham Suites designed as a contemporary reflection of the golden years of grand British hospitality as typified by the Langham Hotel.

Earlier this year, British newspaper, The Sunday Times ranked the Langham Suites among the worlds Top 10 High-tech Hotel Rooms and cited the rooms for being one of the few with en-suite, broadband internet access, 37 Plasma TV and DVD surround sound home theatre to create the dream home away from home.   These ultra luxurious signature suites also feature the hotels new signature yume beds, the most comfortable king-sized beds in Hong Kong. The name yume is Japanese for dream.

The hotel has a number of outstanding restaurants, including: the award-winning Tang
Court Cantonese restaurant, which was named one of the Worlds Ten Great Hotel Restaurants 2002 by the prestigious US HOTELS magazine and featured on Travel & Leisure magazines Annual List of 100 Fabulous Places and Things for 2001; the popular Bostonian, which serves a huge selection of steaks and fresh seafood, and the authentic New York-style Main St. Deli which was inspired by New Yorks famous 2nd Avenue Deli.  There is also a delightful, Mediterranean-style rooftop pool, a fully equipped Health Club and an extensive banqueting facility.

The Langham Hotel, Hong Kong is a member of Summit Hotels & Resorts as well as the prestigious Virtuoso Portfolio a special category in Virtuosos collection of the worlds finest hotels and resorts.  Virtuoso is an elite network of over 5,000 US based professional travel specialists.

The Langham Hotel, Hong Kong is wholly operated by Langham Hotels International Limited a dynamic, modern, high quality hospitality ownership and management company which operates a number of luxury hotels and serviced apartment properties in prime locations within Hong Kong, and asset manages the extensive overseas hotel interests of its parent company, the publicly listed Great Eagle Holdings Limited, Hong Kong.

Properties managed and operated by Langham Hotels International in Hong Kong include the luxury Langham Place Hotel, a new five star property in Mongkok (due to open in July 2004), the superior Eaton Hotel, three Eaton House serviced apartment buildings and the Yat Tung Heen Chinese Restaurants.

Overseas properties owned by the Group, and asset managed by Langham Hotels International, include the deluxe Le Meridien Boston in the USA (to be renamed Langham Hotel, Boston from January 1st, 2004); Langham Hilton in London (to be renamed Langham Hotel, London from late May 2004); Sheraton Towers Southgate in Melbourne, Australia; the Sheraton Auckland Hotel and Towers in New Zealand, and the four Diamond rated Delta Chelsea Hotel in Toronto, Canada.
