for hospitality

The Pineapple has been a symbol of hospitality for centuries. According to legend, captains of New England would mount a pineapple on their fence posts when they had a safe return from sea.  This served as an invitation for family and friends to visit and share a meal together.  Today, the pineapple serves as a symbol for the highest quality in hospitality

The Triple Bottomline: Fresh BulbTM Eliminates Odors,
Cuts Energy Costs and Reduces Global Warming

Pineapple Hospitality announces its Winter Light Sale

SAINT CHARLES, MISSOURI JAN. 4, 2007 Heres a convenient truth for hotel owners/operators: Switching to the Fresh Bulb compact fluorescent lighting (CFL) solution not only improves the guest experience by providing superior light quality and eliminating strong odors, but it also demonstrates your commitment to helping preserve our planets precious resources along with a bit of your own money!

As a way to raise awareness of the benefits of CFL, Saint Charles-based Pineapple Hospitality is offering its first annual Winter Light  Sale on the revolutionary new Fresh Bulb For a limited time, the long-lasting, energy-reducing, odor-eliminating Fresh Bulbs are on sale for only $2.50 each. Fresh Bulbs provide top-quality light while reducing energy costs by 62 to 77 percent.

"Environmentally conscious customers will appreciate knowing their stays at your hotel will have less impact on the environment, and this leaves a positive impression of your property, says Ray Burger, President of Pineapple Hospitality. You also benefit, as the Fresh Bulb provides a complete payback in just a few months and a 20-fold overall return on investment in lighting cost-savings.

Global Warming Crisis

From reports about climate change on The Oprah Show to the surprising popularity of Al Gores documentary,An Inconvenient Truth, it is clear that more and more Americans are concerned about global warming and, equally important, they are wondering what they can do to help.

Amazingly, the reduction of global warming  can start by changing one light bulb at a time. According to Michael Oppenheimer, professor of geosciences and international affairs at Princeton University, and a leading scholar on global warming, one of the top three ways to slow down global warming is to use energy-saving fluorescent light bulbs. He notes that if every American household replaced five light bulbs with compact fluorescent light bulbs, it would save as much energy as if we took 8 million cars off the roads.

According to the Rocky Mountain Institute (RMI), lighting accounts for about 39 million tons of carbon dioxide emissions from traditional electric generating plants. However, RMI estimated that CFL technology can cost-effectively save 50 to 90 percent of the power now consumed by lights in the United States. That would save $30 billion a year and reduce carbon dioxide emissions by 20 to 35 million tons per year.

As an official EPA ENERGY STAR partner, Pineapple Hospitality is proud to be part of the CFL solution to global warming, Burger says. Fresh BulbTM not only uses up to 77 percent less energy to operate than a traditional 100-watt incandescent bulb reducing the amount of carbon dioxide emitted by power plants but it would take the life of almost 11 incandescent bulbs to equal one compact fluorescent bulb!

Raj Vanmali, owner of the 36-room Americas Best Value Inn in Nashville, Tenn., has realized the environmental, as well as budgetary savings that Fresh Bulb can bring. The hotel recently replaced five 100-watt incandescent bulbs in each room with Fresh Bulbs.

We received a complete payback on the project in energy savings alone in about three months, and these Fresh Bulbs can last up to five years meaning a potential 20-fold return on investment in energy savings alone, Vanmali says.

We upgraded each guestroom with four to six Fresh Bulbs in December, says Mike Patel, owner of the 48-room Americas Best Value Inn in Middleton/Franklin, Ohio. We had 75-watt incandescent bulbs before, so our guestroom lighting is significantly enhanced with these CFLs.

Just as important, were trimming our related lighting costs up to 70 percent, Patel adds. Anytime you can save money while improving the guest experience and be environmentally responsible, its a good thing.

Just take a look at the impact one fluorescent light bulb can have on your budget and the environment:

Incandescent
CFL
Lumens
Cost Savings
CO2 Savings
40W  11-14W  > 490  $39-$44  507-572 lbs.
60W  15-19W  > 900  $62-$68  806-884 lbs
75W  20-25W  > 1,200  $76-$83  988-1,079 lbs.
100W  26-29W  > 1,750  $107-$112  1,391-1,456 lbs.
150W  38-42W  > 2,600  $163-$169  2,119-2,197 lbs.

The savings from changing light bulbs can have a dramatic impact on your bottom line and the environment, Burger says. If we all work together, and make fighting global warming a priority, just think of the impact that changing all the lighting from incandescent to compact fluorescent in every hotel could have on the world.

Fresh Air

While all fluorescent light bulbs help the environment by reducing the amount energy used, only Fresh Bulb can help improve the air quality of every room it is used in.

Sharon Gallagher, CFL Product Manager for Technical Consumer Products Pineapple Hospitalitys energy-efficient lighting partner in Aurora, Ohio says the bulbs have coats of armor to fight off odors.

Each Fresh Bulb is dipped three times in titanium dioxide and allowed to dry, Gallagher says. The coatings react with the fluorescent lighting when the bulb is turned on and within 10 minutes the Fresh BulbTM begins eliminating odors ranging from tobacco to burned popcorn to you name it.

It works like magic because you cant see it or smell it working, Gallagher adds. Its all very quiet. Fresh Bulb doesnt mask odors with a flowery scent. It eliminates them quickly and completely.

Pineapples Fresh Bulb creates fresh indoor air, beams Steve Barber, Chief Engineer at the 76-room Lexington Inn, part of Americas Best Value Inns Lexington Collection, in Indian Harbour Beach, Fla.

The pet-friendly property had a guest with a dog both displaced by Hurricane Katrina stay in a room late in 2005 for three months and the duo really put the Fresh Bulb to the test.

Initially, myself and my executive housekeeper were skeptical as to whether the Fresh Bulb actually could eliminate odors, but we soon saw the light, Barber says. That room had an awful dog smell, but when we changed out our lighting from 60-watt incandescents to Fresh BulbsTM after the two left, that room miraculously was fresh smelling in a matter of hours.
