‘Hotel Technologies’ at IH/M&R Show
No. 3346 Nov. 14-16
Randolph, N.J. — Nov. 1, 2004 — Thirty-year hospitality industry veteran Steven J. Belmonte has been retained by Rahway, N.J.-based Hotel Technologies LLC to help open doors at hotel companies that are looking to bring a more home-like environment to their properties with easy-to-program branded electronic clock radios that are guest-friendly and inviting to listen to … Windows made of SmartGlass™ that instantly turn a clear pane of glass to total darkness within seconds … BleachSafe™ fabrics that enable designers to add bold colors to bedding and towels … and, Guestroom decor influenced by famed designers Isaac Mizrahi or Lucy Pereda that give guests all the style and comforts of home.
These are just a few of the solutions that Hotel Technologies will showcase in Booth No. 3346 at the at the 89th annual International Hotel/Motel & Restaurant Show (IH/M&RS), November 14-16, 2004, at New York City’s Jacob K. Javits Convention Center.
“The shortest route to success is with someone who has paved the way,” said Belmonte, Founder, President and CEO of Hospitality Solutions LLC, a multi-faceted consulting firm. “And believe me, after 30 years of owning and managing major hotels to operating one of the nation’s top management companies to being the president and CEO of Ramada Hotels for more than a decade, I can spot a professional hospitality company that hoteliers will want to align themselves with, and Hotel Technologies is going to take this industry by storm.”
Hotel Technologies brings “the science of feeling at home”™ to hotels and their guests, he said. A division of SDI Technologies, a 50-year-old Consumer Audio Electronics Company, Hotel
Technologies designs, develops, engineers and manufactures state-of-the-art intelligent electronic products, satellite entertainment systems and patented technologies for hotels and resorts. In addition, the company supplies nationally recognized and planned branded softgoods and FF&E to hotels, and gives brands the opportunity to align themselves with a number of nationally recognized home-décor and fashion designers in order to create differentiation.
“Hotel Technologies has the ability to create customized solutions for the discriminating tastes and differing needs of branded hotels and independent resorts,” Belmonte said. “In fact, they inviting all hoteliers, designers, architects and purchasing agents who have a challenge that they need ‘solved through technology’ to sit down with them in New York. It’s just amazing what this company can do.”
Music to guests’ ears
Hotel Technologies first made its entrance into hospitality earlier this year by creating a custom bedside clock radio for Hampton Inns, the midscale brand for Hilton Hotels Corp. as part of its $80 million amenities upgrade program.
“The hotel industry is screaming for change -- for a smarter, simpler, yet sophisticated way of attracting and retaining guests,” said Ezra S. Ashkenazi, President and CEO of Hotel Technologies. “Together with Hampton Inns, we designed a new stereo clock radio that guests actually get excited about. The age-old problem has been that guests find the guestroom clock radio difficult to program when setting the alarm and also difficult to tune into a music format that they prefer. The Hotel Technologies clock radio can be set in just three steps and offers a selection of pre-programmed radio stations by music format, such as jazz, country, rock or classical. Based on demand, we have expanded our Zenith and Timex clock-radio line to include different designs, feature packages and sizes, along with CD players/MP3 (line-in).”
This product was just the first in a long line of solutions that Hotel Technologies is introducing to the hospitality industry, Belmonte said. For example, the company also has created a light-bulb solution that eliminates the need for frequent replacement, safety black-out lights for in the rooms to prevent accidents in the dark and intelligent lamps that feature the latest technology.
“Not only are we going to “wow” hoteliers at the IH/M&R Show with our electronics and FF&E products, but we are going to make every designer’s and architect’s dream come true by introducing them to SmartGlass™,” Ashkenazi said. “As the exclusive distributor of SmartGlass™ technology, which has more than 200 worldwide patents, we can instantly turn a clear window to total darkness within seconds for just pennies a day! “
According to Belmonte, SmartGlass™ means there is no longer a need to install and maintain shades in guestrooms. It also eliminates the need for bedspreads, drapery and carpet to be frequently replaced due to sun bleaching because the windows can be programmed to dim at a pre-set time of day when the sun is shining at its peak.
“Just imagine, you can now wake-up to the sun rise gradually, by programming SmartGlass™ to switch from dark to clear over a 15 minute interval of time,” Belmonte said. “It’s a simple solution that saves hoteliers considerable money in softgoods and energy while increasing guest comfort and satisfaction. Now hoteliers will have something really unique for their guests to talk about when they return home – and I’ll bet that not only will the guests themselves come back, but so will their friends and relatives, just for the experience!”
From linens to licensed products
Another solution that will equally appeal to designers and purchasing agents is BleachSafe™. Now designers can finally bring bold, vibrant colors to the guestroom with color-safe fabrics, thanks to a patent-pending formula developed by Hotel Technologies that is applied to all fabric.
Hotels also can tie-in their present private-label basics on a national license basis by offering branded bedding such as Fieldcrest.
According to Belmonte, because “licensing" is an $80 billion business, it is Hotel Technologies’ vision is to take that success and bring it to the hospitality trade.
He said one of the fastest ways to build brand differentiation is by working with Hotel Technologies to customize a technology solution or design alternative that keeps a hotel brand top-of-mind with travelers. One way is to accomplish this is to allow Hotel Technologies to match a nationally recognized designer, such Isaac Mizrahi (whose home fashions and apparel are found in every Target department store) or Lucy Pereda (a famous Latin designer whose signature items are now in all Sears locations), with a hotels’ demographic and deliver designer guestrooms to the local market.
"Hotel Technologies’ products are intelligent and their design concepts are smart," Belmonte said. "I am confident that intelligent hoteliers will quickly see that Hotel Technologies is the smart choice to make their marketing and operations dreams come true. Ezra Ashkenazi and his impressive team welcome your toughest challenge, and look forward to seeing you in New York."
