Dallas, TX June 22, 2004 HITEC 2004 - Merlot
Communications, Inc., a leading manufacturer of High Speed Internet Access
(HSIA) equipment, today announced a breakthrough in lowering the cost of
Wireless LAN (Wi-Fi) installation.
The Merlot VROOMService HSIA solution supports the deployment of Wireless Access Points (WAP) without the added expense of running CAT-5 cable, or providing AC power. The Merlot LapJackTM is the only remotely powered in-room wired access device in the hotel industry, and is now positioned to become the standard for wireless access installations. The LapJack receives its power and connectivity over ordinary telephone wires that carry the broadband data and remotely transmits that power and connectivity to the WAP without costly Power over Ethernet (PoE) injectors. With the clean line and small size of the LapJack, properties now have the flexibility to install access points in areas where CAT-5 cable or AC power is not fiscally feasible, or easily accessible such as public areas, guestrooms, and meeting space. This breakthrough enables property owners to offer wired, wireless or a hybrid solution with less expense and high levels of user satisfaction, said George Conant, CEO at Merlot. By installing Merlots HSIA solution, guests enjoy the security and ease of use of wired in-room access and the portability and productivity of wireless access. Merlot is exhibiting the Merlot LapJack at HITEC 2004 booth #442, as well as other applications including Video on Demand and SmartRoom solutions.
