WHITE PLAINS, NY, October, 2001� An array of
exhibits, informative educational programs and networking opportunities
will be among the hospitality design offerings at the 86th Annual International
Hotel/Motel & Restaurant Show (IH/M&RS), November 10-13, 2001 at
New York City�s Jacob K. Javits Convention Center.
�The area of hospitality design is a substantial component of the IH/M&RS. The depth of resources available among the Show�s exhibits are complimented by the educational programming and networking events which take place throughout the Show�s duration,� said Christian Falkenberg, Show Manager. Exhibits Design is the largest element of the IH/M&RS, with some 600 companies from among the Show�s 1,900 exhibitors featuring case goods, seating, floor and wall coverings, fabrics, artwork, lighting and much more. Located in the �Hospitality Showcase� on Level 1 and in the �Furnishings and Fixtures� section on Level 3 of the Jacob K. Javits Convention Center, exhibiting companies will present the latest products and services in hospitality design. A sample of companies featuring design resources includes returning exhibitors Durkan Patterned Carpet, Everwood Teak, Valley Forge Fabrics, Inc., Wiggins-Crest, and newcomers Deco Lav Incorporated, Oxygen and Asindo. Educational Programs The IH/M&RS will present four design programs: �Six Star Look�Three-Star Budget: Can Paying Less Get You More;� �Visionaries in Design�New Stars on the Horizon (The Harry Potter Phenomenon);� �Retail in Hotels: A New Way to Expand Revenue�Designing For Profit By The Square Foot;� and the Restaurant Futurists� session, �Marketing Restaurant Design & Tabletops as Theater.� More than 30 educational programs will be offered to show participants, covering a variety of topics for lodging and culinary professionals. Just as stage design embraces and projects the story line of the play, so does restaurant design project and market the dining experience. Today, it has to be more than pretty. A panel co-chaired by Ariane Batterberry, Co-Publisher of Food Arts, and Michael Adams, Editorial Director of Hospitality Design, explores how design of the environment, appointments and tabletops can market the dining experience as theater. Designers include Lee Carpenter of Design Forum; Kathy Diamond, Diamond Marketing Design, and Morris Nathanson, Morris Nathanson Design. Gold Key Awards Breakfast The 21st Annual Gold Key Awards, recognizing excellence in hospitality design, serves as a networking opportunity for design professionals on Monday, November 12, from 7:30 a.m. � 10:00 a.m., at New York City�s Waldorf=Astoria. The 2001 Gold Key Awards, which are presented by the IH/M&RS and sponsored by Hospitality Design and Hotel and Motel Management magazines, recognizes hospitality designers for excellence in seven design categories: Restaurants � Seating To 110; Restaurants � Seating Over 110; Guest Rooms; Suites; Lobby/Reception Area; Senior Living Facility; and Spa and Resort. An award for the Best of Show will also be presented for the first time this year. The event will feature a keynote address by Chip Conley, founder and CEO of Joie de Vivre Hospitality. Joie de Vivre is Northern California�s largest independent hotelier, featuring themed properties celebrating the San Francisco Bay Area. Tickets for the Awards Breakfast are $65 each, with a portion of the proceeds donated to the Network of Executive Women in Hospitality (NEWH).
