 The Strength of the 86th International Hotel/Motel & 
Restaurant Show Continues to be Areas of Design, 
Foodservice and Technology; 
Set for November 10-13, 2001
WHITE PLAINS, NY, July 23, 2001� For four days in November, the hospitality industry will gather in New York City at the International Hotel/Motel & Restaurant Show  (IH/M&RS) for access to new resources and networking as well as educational programs and innovations.  The 86th annual IH/M&RS, the world�s longest running hospitality trade show, promises a wealth of lodging and culinary offerings�from more than 1,900 suppliers � for some 58,000 trade attendees from around the globe, November 10-13, 2001, at New York City�s Jacob K. Javits Convention Center. 
 
�The strength of the International Hotel/Motel & Restaurant Show continues to be in the areas of design, foodservice and technology.  These three components are the cornerstones of the IH/M&RS.  Hospitality and foodservice professionals value the IH/M&RS for its breadth and depth of product and services for their industries,� said Christian  Falkenberg, show manager of the IH/M&RS.

The design component of the IH/M&RS is the largest element, featuring some 600 companies.  This year, exhibitors showcasing a variety of furnishings and fixtures, design products and services include American Atelier, Asindo, Bryan Ashley, Everwood Teak, Oxygen, Tropitone and Wiggins-Crest.  Rounding out the Show�s design offerings will be several seminars focusing on design budgeting, industry trendsetters and revenue expansion; the 21st annual Gold Key Awards Ceremony for Excellence in Hospitality Design recognizing finalists and winners in seven categories; and the Gold Key Awards Gallery in the IH/M&RS Hospitality Showcase.
The culinary components of the IH/M&RS also continue to serve as a solid part of the Show�s foundation.  Within the Foodservice Equipment and Supplies Section, nearly 400 exhibitors will offer a range of products, from the smallest cooking utensils to the largest ovens.  Returning exhibitors and notable newcomers include Dixie Foodservice,  Enodis, Reckitt Benckiser, Rubbermaid, True Foodservice and Vulcan.   In addition, the Food & Beverage section will feature another 250 exhibitors, including Anheuser-Busch, Bindi, Keller�s Creamery, Moka-D�oro, NextDayGourmet.com and Paris Gourmet/Patisfrance.   For added flavor, the Show�s �Culinary Resource Center� will present a series of live demonstrations, competitions and culinary education.  Highlights include the IH/M&RS Demonstration Kitchen, the 6th Annual IH/M&RS Chefs� Championships, the 133rd annual Salon of Culinary Art; and the 2nd Annual �Restaurant Futurists�.

Technology-based resources also maintain a strong presence at this year�s IH/M&RS.  Returning exhibitors are Micros, Panasonic, PEPC Nederland BV, Purchase Pro and Vingcard Elsafe.  Educational programs pertaining to e-business, wireless technology, and technology in today�s economy will offer added-value to information hungry attendees; and the �IH/M&RS eBusiness Center� once again will provide Show participants with access to e-mail and Internet connections.

Education will again be a key feature of the IH/M&RS, extending the informational and networking opportunities for attendees and exhibitors alike.  Some 25 programs will be presented over four days, with lodging highlights including a �CEO Panel� with lodging industry luminaries and a series of daily hospitality-focused sessions addressing design, technology, industry trends, business relations and sales and marketing.   The 2nd Annual �Restaurant Futurists� will offer 11 culinary-specific sessions, led by a roster of foodservice and culinary professionals, address key issues such as women�s role in foodservice, food safety, marketing and the evolving American menu.
The IH/M&RS will open on Saturday, November 10, with presentation of the 6th annual Editors� Choice Awards. Best New Product Awards will be presented to exhibitors in five categories�Amenities, Food & Beverage, Foodservice Equipment & Supplies, Furnishings & Fixtures and Technologies�and one �Kenneth F. Hine Home Best of Show� prize also will be awarded.

Extending the Show�s value to the industry, a number of social and networking events will be presented outside of Show hours.  IH/M&RS sponsored events include the Gold Key Awards Breakfast, recognizing excellence in hospitality design; the �Restaurant Futurists� Italian wine tasting; and the 86th Annual International Hospitality Ball.  Other key events include the concurrent American Hotel & Lodging Association (AH&LA) Fall Conference; the Network of Executive Women in Hospitality (NEWH) 11th Annual Gala; the Foodservice Industry Networking Reception; the Hotel Association of New York City (HANYC) �Big Apple Stars� Awards; and the Culinary Institute of America (CIA) Alumni Reception.

The IH/M&RS has developed a series of marketing partnerships to promote the Show and its benefits to targeted industry associations and organizations. New partnership agreements have been forged for 2001 with the Connecticut Lodging Association, Connecticut Restaurant Association, and Army Lodging.  Marketing partnerships with the American Culinary Federation (ACF); Network of Executive Women in Hospitality (NEWH); New Jersey Restaurant Association (NJRA); Pennsylvania Travel Council; Rhode Island Hospitality & Tourism Association; and the United States Air Force (USAF) also will continue again this year.

The Show will feature some 1,900 exhibitors in 12 distinct product sections: Advertising & Promotion; Cleaning & Maintenance; The Environment; Food & Beverage; Foodservice Equipment & Supplies; Fitness, Leisure & Entertainment; Franchise, Finance & Management; Furnishings & Fixtures; Guest Amenities & Services; Tabletop; Technology; and Uniforms, Linens & Beddings.  More than 58,000 trade attendees are expected. 

Show hours are 10:00am-5:00pm from Saturday, November 10, through Monday, November 12, and 10:00am-3:00pm Tuesday, November 13.  IH/M&RS attendee registration is $20 before October 14, and $40 after October 14.
