Day Hospitality Group Oversees a $500,000 Renovation Converting a Fairfield Inn to a Fairfield Inn & Suites

ATLANTA (February 16, 2001) - Day Hospitality Group opened 18 suites at its Fairfield Inn hotel in Midtown and officially converts it to a Fairfield Inn and Suites by Marriott yesterday. The Fairfield Inn & Suites marks the first of its brand in Georgia and the fifth in the USA.  Reflecting an increased interest in Midtown Atlanta, investors poured more that half a million dollars into the existing Fairfield Inn to renovate and upgrade it.

Midtown Atlanta is a hot market, said Peyton Day, chief executive of Day Hospitality Group, and the Fairfield Inn and Suites occupies a prime location along the Peachtree corridor.  By providing a cutting edge facility at affordable prices, we plan to take advantage of the opportunities.

During the past few months, the hotel engaged in a metamorphosis, matching that of its Midtown community.  In February, after five years of success as a Fairfield Inn, the hotel converts to a Fairfield Inn & Suites.  The designation reflects changes that include design, furniture, decoration and the renovation and expansion of some conventional rooms to suites. The original owners along with the dedicated DHG management and staff remain in place.

The addition of suites will meet a definite need in the market, said General Manager David Goetsch.  Expanded amenities include desktop Internet access and updated phone systems.  Hotel renovations include new carpet and wall coverings in the public areas, new furniture in the lobby and breakfast area, and an expanded exercise room.

Hotel Boasts Rich History

Located at the north end of Midtown and at the edge of the affluent Ansley Park residential area, the hotel boasts quite a history.  In the mid-sixties, nearly 40 years ago, investors developed the property as the Midtown Plaza Hotel.  After a decade, the hotel underwent a renovation and reinvented itself as the Admiral Benbow Inn. Subsequently, the hotel changed flags several times, becoming a Rodeway Inn then a Quality Inn before reverting to a variation on its original name, The Midtown Inn.  As such, it functioned without a franchise affiliation.

In 1995, the hotels owners and investors noted renewed interest and economic growth in the Midtown area.  Because of their hotels strategic location, they saw value in an upgrade along with a conversion to the Fairfield Inn by Marriott brand.  The investors brought in Day Hospitality Group, a newly formed hotel management and development company, to oversee the propertys $4.5 million renovation and to manage the property

for them.  Their instincts proved accurate as the hotel showed an immediate increase in occupancy.

In mid-2000, the hotels owners invited DHG management to head the efforts to upgrade the facility and maximize its strategic position in the marketplace.
