OKLAHOMA CITY--Oct. 28--The Oklahoma City Airport Trust at noon Monday took physical control of the 120-room hotel just north of the airport as part of an agreement made with its bankrupt operators, officials confirmed.

The trust in September agreed to accept possession of what has been called the Will Rogers Hotel from the bankrupt OKC West. However, that agreement was reached with the understanding that the surrender cannot be completed until an appeal before the U.S. 10th Circuit Court of Appeals is complete, Tom Morton, airport public affairs officer, said Monday.

The appeals court has yet to make a ruling in the case, Morton said. "When that case will be heard, nobody knows."

Management and personnel removed belongings Monday morning, Morton said. Oklahoma City police assigned to the Will Rogers World Airport secured the property and will continue to patrol it.

The complex will be winterized and remain vacant until a court ruling is made, he said.

OKC West leased the hotel from the airport trust in 1990. In September, the company owed $13,800 in back rental payments, records showed.

Oct. 28 - The Westin hotel chain is putting its brand on the Miami beach landmark known for 35 years as The Doral. On Nov. 1, the 18-story, 417-room hotel will become the international chain's 25th resort -- one of its more than 90 hotels -- and its first beachfront property in Florida.

The hotel recently was sold to Interstate Hotels Corp., one of the country's largest hotel management firms. The $55.4 million acquisition did not include rights to license the Doral name. Pittsburgh-based Interstate plans to spend $10.5 million renovating the property.

Westin, which will operate the hotel under a franchise agreement, runs the Westin Cypress Creek, north of Fort Lauderdale, markets the Biltmore in Coral Gables and manages and markets the Walt Disney World Swan. The company was interested in the Doral, "because of the general strength and significance of Miami and the Miami Beach marketplace," said Scott Woroch, vice president of development.
