in Le Mars Named the 2000 Iowa Tourism Attraction of the Year |
LE MARS, Iowa, Nov. 6, 2000 - The Iowa Division of Tourism has named
The Ice Cream Capital of the World Visitor Center in Le Mars as the 2000
Iowa Tourism Attraction of the Year. In its first seven months, the
Visitor Center hosted 30,000 travelers.
The whole Blue Bunny family and the city of Le Mars are honored to receive this recognition, said Gary Wells, executive vice president of Wells Dairy, Inc. Its exciting to be able to share the history and heritage of Wells Dairy and Blue Bunny with the rest of the world. The Visitor Center really makes the Blue Bunny brand come alive. The Visitor Center was chosen for its outstanding performance, outstanding economic impact, quality and effective marketing, impressive attendance figures and involvement in Iowa tourism initiatives. The Ice Cream Capital of the World Visitor Center won in the category
for communities with a population between 5,001 and 20,000. In making
the announcement, Iowa Division of Tourism Administrator Nancy Landess
noted that publicity gained by the Visitor Center has drawn attention far
and wide.
In 1994, the Iowa Legislature declared Le Mars the Ice Cream Capital of the World. It achieved that distinction because more ice cream is produced there-in one location by one company-than anywhere else in the world. Blue Bunny is a brand of Wells Dairy Inc., which was founded in 1913 and is the largest family-owned and managed dairy processor in the United States. There are more than 500 Blue Bunny-branded products, including ice cream and frozen novelties. Blue Bunny products can be found across the United States and in 30 foreign countries. |
