Annexes Approved to IH&RA - UFTAA Code of Practice
to Facilitate Hotel and Travel Agency Transactions
Paris, 6 December 2000 - The official signing of the definitive version of the new Code of Practice for Hotels and Travel Agencies between the International Hotel & Restaurant Association (IH&RA) and the Universal Federation of Travel Agency Associations (UFTAA) was held in Paris on 28 November 2000.

Four annexes have been added to the Code, which has been formally updated by the two associations as a means of codifying the rights and responsibilities of their respective members hotels and travel agencies when doing business on an international basis. The new Code has already been adapted in a number of countries, including India.

The annexes have been drafted by IH&RA and UFTAA in the form of standard contracts integrating clauses from the Code of Practice, to help facilitate the drawing up of contracts between hotels and travel agencies. These standard contracts now cover, in addition to group and individual business, allotment and MICE bookings (Meetings, incentives, conventions and exhibitions). In addition, a check-list has been designed to allow professional congress organisers (PCO) ensure that all existing contracts cover the principal points which the Code of Practice addresses.

The supplementary annexes were unanimously approved at the UFTAA Congress held in Sri Lanka last October. They were ratified in turn by the General Assembly of the IH&RA at its recent annual congress held in London (16-20 November).

The full text of the Code was officially signed on 28 November 2000 at the Hotel Royal Monceau in Paris by the IH&RA president, Dr Osmane Aïdi, and Mr. Udaya Nanayakara, President of the Sri Lankan Association of Travel Agencies and member of the board of UFTAA. The event concluded a year-long collaboration by a working group which on the IH&RA side includes Christiane Dhorne, secretary general,  Jörgen Königshöfer, secretary and Jérôme Stifter, president of the finance committee.
