New Operator at Hyatt Hilton Head Hotel; Will Be Renamed the Hilton Head Marriott Beach and Golf Resort |
WASHINGTON, Dec. 11, 2000 - Marriott International,
Inc. (NYSE: MAR) announced today that the Hyatt Hilton Head Hotel
in Hilton Head, S.C. will become a Marriott Hotel effective January 11,
2001. The 513-room property, which is owned by GE Pension Trust of
New York, will now be managed by Marriott International and re-named the
Hilton Head Marriott Beach and Golf Resort.
�Marriott is thrilled to be back on Hilton Head with a hotel,� said Michael Keskin, general manager of the resort. �We�re planning a seamless transition for our guests and the more than 500 associates who will be retained as Marriott employees at the hotel.� With the addition of this hotel to the nine Marriott Vacation Club International time-share communities operated on Hilton Head, Marriott will become the largest employer on this well-known resort island. The hotel is planning a $20 million renovation, to begin shortly after its conversion to Marriott. �The renovation of guest rooms and meeting rooms will insure that this property is among the premier resorts in all of Hilton Head and the Southeast,� Keskin added. �The resort will remain completely open through the conversion and the renovation. Located approximately 30 minutes from Savannah
airport, the Hilton Head Marriott Beach and Golf Resort features 41,000
square feet of meeting space including its 17,600 square foot grand ballroom,
ideal for large conferences and social gatherings.
Guest room amenities include STSN high speed Internet access, two phone lines with voicemail, mini-bar, bathrobes, iron and ironing board, hair dryer and in-room coffee service. In addition, room service, valet laundry service, indoor and outdoor pools with whirlpool spa, beachfront and indoor parking are also available.
