 Industry Real Estate Advisory Council of the AH&MA Names Stephen Rushmore Recipient of the 
C. Everett Johnson Award
April 27, 2000 - Stephen Rushmore, president and founder of HVS International, has been named recipient of the Industry Real Estate Advisory Council of the American Hotel & Motel Association�s (IREFAC) C. Everett Johnson Award.  IREFAC, which provides a forum for major hotel lenders, developers, owners, and operators to interact and stay current on the opportunities and challenges within the hotel industry, presents this award annually to �an individual who has been an innovator in the profession of hotel real estate.�

Rushmore will receive this honor in June during the 22nd Annual  New York University International Hospitality Industry Investment Conference  at the New York Marriott Marquis.  The award will be presented to him by Gregory R. Dillon, vice chairman emeritus of Hilton Hotels Corporation.

Active in industry education, IREFAC, which sponsors the Lodging Property Index produced by Cornell University, presents the C. Everett Johnson Award in memory of the former managing partner and chairman of Pannell Kerr Forster.  C. Everett Johnson was a specialist in travel and tourism studies, and was a well-known and respected presence in the industry.  He was a founding member and chairman of IREFAC.

Rushmore, who recently has served as co-chairman of IREFAC, founded HVS International 20 years ago to satisfy the need for quality appraisals and valuations of hotels.  Today, with more than 100 specialists in 11 offices around the world, HVS supplies unique hotel consulting expertise in the areas of executive search, eco services, food and beverage, gaming, asset management and investment counseling, timeshare consulting, and operational and management strategy development.

Rushmore is a leading authority and prolific author on the topic of hotel feasibility studies and appraisals.  He has written all four textbooks and two seminars for the Appraisal Institute covering this subject. He writes a monthly column for Hotels magazine, a quarterly column for the Real Estate Finance Journal, and is widely quoted by major business and professional publications.  He lectures extensively on hotel trends and has taught hundreds of classes and seminars to more than 20,000 industry professionals.  He is an adjunct professor at New York University and is on the faculty of the Cornell Hotel School�s professional development program.  In 1999, he was honored by the Hotel School at Cornell University as its �Hotelie of the Year.�

Rushmore has a BS degree from the Cornell Hotel School and an MBA from the University of Buffalo.  He holds a CRE designation from the Counselors of Real Estate, an MAI from the Appraisal Institute, and a CHA (certified hotel administrator) from the American Hotel and Motel Association.  Rushmore is a member of numerous hotel industry committees, including the NYU Hotel Investment Conference and the Cornell European Investment Conference.

In his free time, Mr. Rushmore enjoys skiing, biking, and sailing.  He holds a commercial pilot�s license with instrument rating, collects hotel key tags, and is one of the foremost authorities on regional dining (road food).
