of the Hyatt West Hollywood, Recreating the Hotel's Original 1960's Flavor |
LOS ANGELES, Calif. --R. D. Olson Construction
has completed renovation of the Hyatt West Hollywood, recreating the hotel's
original 1960's flavor. The Irvine-based construction company, which specializes
in building hotels and restaurants, has brought back to life the days when
the facility was owned by Gene Autry and known as the Continental Hotel.
It is located at 8401 Sunset Blvd., West Los Angeles, across the street
from the House of Blues.
In renovating the hotel, R. D. Olson Construction rebuilt 28,258 square feet of the first, second and 14th floors. The project included renovations to the lobby, entrance, executive offices, restaurant and two ballrooms in addition to building a new exercise room. New finishes including terrazzo flooring, and millwork and granite wails give the first floor an elegant 60's look, while a glass and steel all-purpose meet-ing and party facility give the hotel's 14th floor rooftop a new face. The renovation was designed by the architectural firm, Culpepper, McAuliffe and Meaders, Inc., based in Atlanta, GA. The project cost was $4 million. "The renovation did more than enhance the beauty of the hotel; it brought back an era alive with California history," said Dennis Reyling, president, R. D. Olson Construction. R. D. Olson Construction was founded in 1979 by Robert Olson. The company has since built such well-known California establishments as the Hilton Garden Inn, Arcadia; Springhill Suites, Arcadia; and W Los Angeles. Current projects under con-struction include: Marriott Newport Coast Villas, Newport Beach; Marriott Shadow Ridge, Palm Desert; and Townplace Suites, Newark. R. D. Olson Construction is the twelfth largest company of its kind in Orange County with its corporate offices in Irvine, Calif. |
