Guam Hotel & Restaurant Association Guam Hotel Statistics |
Juen 2000 - Members of Guams tourism industry
and the Government of Guam have been working diligently to upgrade its
facilities this past decade. In five short years, total hotel room
inventory has grown by more than 43%, from 6,233 rooms to over 9,000 hotel
rooms. Guam has welcomed the addition of new hotels such as the Outrigger
Guam Resort, Santa Fe on the Bay, Royal Orchid Guam Hotel and Accion Hotel.
New hotel room inventory has also been created by the expansion of the
Pacific Islands Club which recently opened 300 rooms in November 1999 and
the opening of the Dai Ichi Garden Villa with 98 rooms. We also welcome
Marriott Resorts who will take over the management of the Pacific Star
Hotel effective in the year 2000.
Many new theme restaurants have opened their doors, including Planet Hollywood, Hard Rock Cafe, T.G.I. Fridays and Sam Choys. Guam boasts over 300 restaurants serving almost every international cuisine available around the world. Additional attractions have been developed and opened within recent years. The opening of Pleasure Island in the summer of 1999 now provides greater shopping and entertainment value for guests of all ages. Gameworks and Underwater World are just two of the major attractions within the Pleasure Island Theme Park that underscore the major improvements for guests to enjoy. Micronesia Mall also opened their in-door mini-amusement park in September 1999, which includes bumper car rides, an indoor roller coaster, a full size carousel as well as other amusement activities. Guam has improved its infrastructure in the heart of the visitor district, with Phase I of the $52.9 million Tumon Bay Redevelopment completed in December 1999. New sidewalks, streetlights, underground power systems, and major beautification on the streets of Tumon now highlight Guam as a major resort destination for guests. Phase II is expected to be completed by the year 2001. We are now poised to compete globally in a very competitive travel industry. Guam has seen positive and consistent signs of growth in our total visitors arrivals since June 1999. We must be diligent in our efforts to sustain this growth into the new millennium. The success of our tourism industry has always relied on the commitment and support that members of the Guam Hotel and Restaurant Association have shown over the years. On behalf of the board of directors, committee officers and staff of the Guam Hotel and Restaurant Association, I extend our sincere appreciation for your support in the past and look forward to working with all in the hospitality industry to continue to grow Guams economy in this new millennium. |
