FORT LAUDERDALE, Fla. - Oct. 20, 1999 - Extended Stay America, Inc.
(NYSE: ESA) announced today that Jay S. Witzel has resigned his position
as President and Chief Operating Officer of ESA Management, Inc. to pursue
other interests.
Prior to joining the Company in August 1997, Mr. Witzel served as President
of Radisson Hospitality Worldwide, Minneapolis, MN. Mr. Witzel expects
to make an announcement regarding his future plans within several weeks.
Mr. George D. Johnson, Jr., Chief Executive Officer of the Company,

Mr. Johnson said that he will immediately assume all of Mr. Witzel�s
responsibilities and that no replacement is contemplated. |
