 15 Historic Hotels Accepted As Members of 
The Most Famous Hotels in the World
 
London 22.10.1999 - As the president of the honorable jury of The Most Famous Hotels in the World, (Andreas Augustin), I have the pleasure to announce the results of this autumn�s meeting of the jury. 15 �new� historic hotels were accepted as honorable and select members of The Most Famous Hotels in the World. 

Among them are 

  • Bristol (Bernini-), Rome, Italy (1870) 
  • Britannia, Trondheim, Norway (1897) 
  • Copley Plaza, Boston, USA (1921) 
  • Dom, Cologne, Germany (1875) 
  • Europaeischer Hof - Hotel Europe, Heidelberg, Germany (1865) 
  • Grand Hotel Kronenhof, Pontresina, CH (1851) 
  • Grand Hotel Mackinac, Michigan, USA (1887) 
  • Lotti, Paris, France (1913) 
  • Palace, Torino, Italy (1872) 
  • Peabody, Memphis, USA (1925) 
  • Queens Hotel, Kandy, Sri Lanka (1849) 
  • Royal Monceau, Paris, France (1926) 
The Hotel Le Bristol in Beirut, Lebanon, which opened in 1951, was accepted as a �Junior  Member�. Only in 2001, when the Hotel Le Bristol is exactly 50 years old and after its proposed extensive renovations, can it be accepted as a full member of the organization. 

Le Bristol shares its junior membership status with the Mount Kenya Safari Club (opened in 1959) and the famous Venician Hotel Cipriani & Palazzo Vendramin (1958) and the Marbella Club (1954). 

This year, full select membership has been reached by the hotel Bauer Gruenwald, Venice, opened in 1949. 

About The Most Famous Hotels in the World 

The Most Famous Hotels in the World, founded in 1986,  is an independent organization, specialized in
researching the history of historic grand hotels. It has its  seat in London, the main archives are housed in Vienna,  Austria. Hotels are chosen as select members when  they continue to run a hotel in accordance with the golden rules of hospitality, striking the right balance between historical value and contemporary elegance.

The organization has 304 select members, from the traditional Asian hotels such as the Raffles in Singapore, the Oriental in Bangkok, The Peninsula in Hong Kong or the Metropole in Hanoi to the grand hotels of Europe like the Imperial in Vienna, the Savoy in London and the Ritz in Paris to the legends of hospitality 
in the US, from the New York Plaza to the San Francisco Fairmont.
