PHOENIX, Oct. 27, 1999 - Aztar Corporation (NYSE: AZR) announced today
the appointment of Hector H. Mon as President of the Tropicana Resort Casino
in Las Vegas. In this role, Mon will be responsible for the operation of
the prominent Las Vegas Strip property, which the company considers a prime
growth opportunity. The appointment will be effective in January
and Mon will report to Dennis C. Gomes, President of Resort Operations
for Aztar.
�Hiring Hector Mon is an important step forward for Aztar. He is a proven leader with the skills we need to take the Tropicana Las Vegas into the future,� Gomes stated in making the announcement. �Hector has an outstanding track record of building strong organizations and improving the performance of the businesses for which he has been responsible. I�m confident he will have a very positive impact on our results.� Mon is an accomplished gaming industry executive whose achievements include a highly successful stint with Harrah�s Entertainment. He has an extensive property operations background as well as corporate management experience. �Having Hector gives us great latitude,� Gomes added. �Short term, he will ensure that the performance of the Tropicana continues to improve, while long term he will play a key role in developing and implementing the strategy that best capitalizes on this great asset.� Mon, 46, started his gaming industry career in Lake Tahoe, where he held several positions with Harrah�s, including Director of Human Resources and Vice President of Casino Operations. In 1992, he gained international experience as a consultant to Casinos de Catalunya in Spain. He then became President of Harrah�s Atlantic City and was responsible for a significant increase in that property�s performance. Most recently, Mon served as President of Harrah�s Nevada Division, overseeing four properties and making comprehensive improvements to those operations. Mon holds a Master�s Degree in Organization Development from Pepperdine University and is graduate of numerous executive development programs. He is a past Chairman of the Nevada Resorts Association and Nevada State Chairman of the U.S. Olympic Committee. He was on the Board of Directors of National Airlines when the company was founded and was appointed to Rutgers University Board of Trustees while living in New Jersey. Currently he is a Trustee for the University of Nevada Las Vegas Foundation.
