Robert Barrett Named Vice President, 
Domestic Marketing For The Los Angeles 
Convention Visitors Bureau
 
LOS ANGELES, Oct. 12, 1999 - Robert Barrett has been named Vice President, Domestic Marketing, for the Los Angeles Convention Visitors Bureau after successfully serving four years as the head of the Bureau�s Cultural Tourism Department. 

In his new role he will assume responsibility for the Bureau�s domestic marketing programs including advertising and collateral, media relations, public relations and development. Additionally, he will continue to oversee the Bureau�s Cultural Tourism commitments. 

�Robert Barrett has spearheaded a number of innovative marketing programs which have helped Los Angeles gain recognition as a cultural metropolis. Under his leadership, Los Angeles� significant wealth of arts and cultural institutions have been promoted domestically and internationally,� said George D. Kirkland, president of the Los Angeles Convention Visitors Bureau. �Robert will bring the same levels of enthusiasm and dedication to his new role in promoting LA.�

Barrett formed the California Cultural Tourism Coalition, a three-year, multi-million dollar marketing program developed in partnership with San Francisco and San Diego to aggressively promote each city�s cultural events and destinations. Also, he was instrumental in bringing the American Smithsonian�s 150th anniversary traveling exhibition to LA.

Barrett is known worldwide as an expert of Cultural Tourism. He has spoken in Portugal for the Getty Conservation Institute and has conducted seminars in numerous states including Hawaii, Georgia, South Carolina, Florida, New York and Massachusetts.

Barrett joined the Bureau as Director of Cultural Tourism in 1994 and was subsequently promoted to Associate Vice President of Cultural Tourism in 1996. Previously, he was a museum director and worked for the City of Long Beach as a visual arts supervisor. He resides in Pasadena.

Barrett has a Bachelor of Fine Arts and a Masters of Fine Arts from California College of Arts and Crafts, the oldest art school in the West. He is a board member of the International Visitors Council of Los Angeles and the Ad Hoc Arts Leaders of Los Angeles. He is a member of the American Society of Association Executives and the American Association of Museums.
The Los Angeles Convention Visitors Bureau is a private, not-for-profit organization that promotes Los Angeles as a destination for tourism and conventions.
