- Edward K. Sowers has been named general manager at The Westin Maui and
complex general manager for The Westin Maui and Kapalua Bay Hotel.
Sowers brings more than 23 years of hotel management experience to his
position. Most recently, he was regional vice president and general
manager at The Aston Wailea Resort, a position he held since 1996.
Between 1991-1994, Sowers held management positions for Lanai Resort
Partners including vice president of operations and executive assistant
manager for The Island of Lanai and general manager at Manele Bay Hotel.
Previously, Sowers was assistant general manager at Stouffer Concourse
Hotel in Denver between 1989-1991 and Stouffer Wailea Beach Resort in 1989.
Sowers' management career began at Hyatt Hotels and Resorts, where
he held various management positions between 1977-1991. His most
recent Hyatt positions were in Florida as general manager at Hyatt Sarasota
between 1987-1989 and general manager at Hyatt Palm Beaches between 1986-1987.
Sowers has maintained active community involvement on Maui. He
currently serves on the Maui County Civil Service Commission and the Board
of the Maui Food Bank. Sowers also has been vice chairman of the
Maui Visitors Bureau, a director of the Hawaii Visitors and Convention
Bureau and a member of the Visitor Industry Coalition.
Sowers received a bachelor of arts in management at the University of
Texas and a bachelor of science and arts in hotel/restaurant management
at the University of Denver.
