Viva Resorts Reassigns Five General Managers
to Different Properties

 
MIAMI, FL (Sept. 18, 2003) � Providing its general managers with a chance to experience the entire resort collection, Viva Resorts, with seven all-inclusive properties in the Dominican Republic, Mexico and the Bahamas, has reassigned five of its general managers to different properties. 

�We are extremely pleased with our entire management team because they have helped all of our properties flourish over the years and contributed towards the overall success of Viva Resorts,� said Ettore Colussi, president of Viva Resorts.  �We felt that it was time to enact this change in order for each manager to continue their growth within our company.  Since these are unilateral moves within our company, we will maintain the same level of service that our guests have come to expect,� Colussi added. 

Viva�s team of general managers is comprised of six experienced individuals who have worked for the Viva Resorts company between three and 15 years.  Each general manager is fluent in a minimum of three languages, which is a key factor in serving Viva�s international clientele.

Marcello Cutri, general manager of the NEW Viva Tangerine

Marcello has been named general manager of the NEW Viva Tangerine, which is scheduled to open Nov. 1, 2003 in Cabarete, Dominican Republic.  Prior to his new assignment at Viva Tangerine, Marcello was the financial general director of Viva Dominicus Beach and Viva Dominicus Palace in the Dominican Republic.  He has spent the past 15 years working for the Viva Resorts company and started his tourism career at Viva Dominicus Beach as the excursions manager where he also held the positions of assistant resident manager, resident manager and vice general director.  Prior to joining the Viva Resorts company, Marcello was a professional tennis player in Italy and a tennis instructor for the Italian National team.  A native of Italy, Marcello is fluent in Italian, Spanish and English.

Alvar Ojeda, general manager of Viva Dominicus Beach and Viva Dominicus Palace

Viva has named Alvar to the position of general manager of sister properties Viva Dominicus Beach and Viva Dominicus Palace, both located in La Romana-Bayahibe, Dominican Republic.  Prior to his appointment to this new position, Alvar spent five years at Viva Maya in Playacar, in the Riviera Maya, Mexico, where he began as the resident manager (for two years) and then was promoted to general manager, a post he maintained for three years.  His other job in the hospitality industry was as general manager of Posada del Capitan Lafitte in Mexico.  Alvar worked as an independent translator while pursuing a degree in Hotel and Restaurant Management from Instituto Tecnologico de Merida in Merida, Yucatan, Mexico.  He also received a Post Graduate Degree in Finance from the Instituto Tecnologico de Monterrey, Mexico.  While in the Riviera Maya, Alvar held the title of vice president of all-inclusive hotels for the Riviera Maya Hotel Association for three years.  A past president of the hotel association and vice president of promotion, Alvar is a native of Mexico and is fluent in Spanish, English and Italian and has knowledge of French and German.

Monica Arango, general manager of Viva Maya

Monica comes to Viva Maya after serving as the general manager of Viva Vallarta, located in Vallarta, Mexico, since January 2000.  After receiving a degree in marketing from the Instituto Tecnologico de Estudios Superiores de Monterrey in Monterrey, Mexico, Monica began her career in the tourism industry.  During her 16 years of experience, she worked for other well-known all-inclusive chain resorts including Club Med and Allegro Resorts.  Monica held the position of general manager at three of Allegro�s Mexico-based properties as well as room division manager at three Allegro resorts in Mexico and the Dominican Republic.  She is fluent in Spanish, English and French.

Massimo Carugati, general manager of Viva Azteca 

Massimo has 20 years of tourism industry experience and recently spent the last year as general director of operations for Viva Dominicus Palace and Viva Dominicus Beach before making the move to Viva Azteca in Playacar in the Riviera Maya, Mexico.  Prior to moving to the Dominican Republic, Massimo served as the general manager of Viva Fortuna Beach on Grand Bahama Island for six and a half years.  From 1994-96, Massimo was the resident manager of  Viva Dominicus Beach. Other positions held by Massimo have included the title of resident manager of Blue Club Ibiza, Baleari Islands, Spain (1993); assistant manager of Viva Dominicus Beach (1990-92); project manager at Temple Point Hotel in Kenya, Africa (1988-90); managing director of I Viaggi del Mappamondo travel agency, Milan, Italy (1987-88); and tour representative manager for various tour companies in Italy (1983-86).  A native of Milan, Italy, Massimo has a degree in accounting and is proficient in English, Italian and Spanish.

Renato Scampuddu, general manager of Viva Vallarta

Renato comes to Viva Vallarta, located in Vallarta, Mexico, from Viva Azteca where he served as general manager for newly two years.  Prior to Viva Azteca, he was the operations manager at Viva Dominicus Palace when it first opened in 1999, and he remained at that hotel for two years.  Renato�s career in the hospitality industry has spanned the past 20 years.  He has worked in Italy, the Bahamas, Tanzania, Kenya, Cuba, California, Miami, London and Switzerland where he has held many positions including general manager, food and beverage director, restaurant manager, bar manager and receptionist.  He has attended the National Hotel Management Institute in Sassari, Italy, and the Mira Costa College of San Diego, CA, where he studied marketing and the Japanese language.  He is fluent in Italian, English, French and Spanish and has knowledge of German and Japanese.
 

Renzo Chiapello, general manager of Viva Fortuna Beach

For the past 11 years, Renzo has worked in the hospitality industry and he currently serves as the general manager of Viva Fortuna Beach, located on Grand Bahama Island in the Bahamas. 

Renzo started his Viva Resorts career as the resident manager of Viva Azteca in Playacar, Mexico in 1998.  After one year, he was promoted to general manager of

 the hotel and spent the next two years in this position.  In 2001, Renzo was appointed general director of operations at Viva Dominicus Beach and Viva Dominicus Palace where he stayed until earlier this year before moving to Viva Fortuna Beach.  Prior to joining the Viva Resorts family, Renzo held many other positions in the hospitality industry and has worked in Egypt, Cuba, Greece, Tunisia, Kenya and Italy.  He is a native of Italy and speaks Italian, Spanish, English and French.

Viva Wyndham: Viva Resorts has entered into a strategic alliance with Dallas-based Wyndham International, Inc., the Caribbean�s largest hotel brand, to re-brand their resort properties as Viva Wyndham Resorts. 

Currently, the Viva Resorts collection includes Viva Fortuna Beach, on Grand Bahama Island in the Bahamas; Viva Dominicus Beach and Viva Dominicus Palace, just steps-in-the-sand apart in La Romana - Bayahibe, Dominican Republic; Viva Maya and Viva Azteca, both in Playacar, in the Riviera Maya, Mexico; and Viva Vallarta in Vallarta, Mexico.  Coming in November 2003, Viva Resorts will add Viva Tangerine, located in Cabarete, Dominican Republic, growing the collection to seven all-inclusive resorts.
