Hospitality Information Technology Association (HITA)
Holding Pre-conference Event at HITEC 2002

May 15, 2002 - The 2001 HITEC conference marked the first year that HITA held a pre-conference think-tank that formed the basis for presentations developed around the topics and results of the think-tank.  HITA will hold the second annual think-tank as a pre-conference event at HITEC 2002 and will present the findings in two conference sessions.  It is HITA's goal, through this conference format, to establish a trend for the presentation of timely research at the HITEC conference and promote the research objectives of the organization.

The session topics for this second annual think tank are: "Managing the IT Relationship Between Franchise Properties and the Corporate IT Function" and "Managing the IT Relationship in Other Functional Areas of the Organization"

If you have not participated in such a "think tank" in the past, you will find the sessions interesting and enlightening. The session starts with a brief outline of the subject and goals of the session. We utilize the nominal group technique as our control process, producing a ranked list of issues related to specific questions posed to the group that frame the major topics.  There is no preparation necessary on your part prior to the session and the process alone generally stimulates good collegial discussion.

HITA was established to:

Understanding that information technology is crucial to the success of the hospitality and travel industries, the service sector and education,

1. Assist hospitality educational programs in implementing information technology curricula.

2. Develop both an information technology curriculum and innovate approaches to its delivery and assessment.

3. Establish a mutually supportive network of members, sharing strengths, expertise, and information.

4. Bring educators, vendors and practitioners from all sectors of the industry together to create a more symbiotic relationship among them.

5. Act as a forum for the dissemination of knowledge, the acquisition of skills, and the resolution of common problems through conferences, workshops and publications.

6. Encourage both undergraduate and graduate students to further their studies in IT by arranging sponsorships/scholarships and to stimulate them to participate in the work of HITA by creating student chapters.

7. Foster the developement and the adoption of standards of best practice in the application of technology in such areas as data security and electronic data interchange.

8. Initiate and arrange sponsorships of collaborative research projects for members of HITA in partnership with the hospitality technology industry.
