Princess Cruises Opens Fifth Wilderness Lodge in Alaska,
The Copper River Princess Wilderness Lodge
May, 2002 - Princess welcomes the first guests to the line's newest Alaska property, Copper River Princess Wilderness Lodge today, as it officially opens for the 2002 summer season.

The company's fifth custom-built property in the state, the 85-room Copper River lodge is the only hotel of its kind bordering on the nation's largest national park, Wrangell-St. Elias -- considered one of the most spectacular destinations in the state. The lodge is featured as part of Princess' extensive Alaska land/sea program, with 11 Copper River tour options available.

"We are extraordinarily pleased with the response to our newest lodge -- it's been selling well and is nearing full occupancy for the season," said Dean Brown, Princess' executive vice president of customer service and sales, and chairman/CEO of Princess Tours. "The property opens up a stunning new area for our cruisetour passengers, who can now visit three of the U.S.'s largest national parks -- Glacier Bay, Denali and Wrangell-St. Elias -- all in one vacation."

Copper River Princess Wilderness Lodge is located on more than 200 acres in the Glennallen and Copper River area of south central Alaska, near the park's visitors center. Situated at the junction of the Klutina River and the Copper River, of Copper River King Salmon fame, it features breathtaking views of the awe-inspiring Mt. Wrangell, Mt. Drum and Mt. Blackburn.

The lodge is the first project of its kind in the Wrangell-St. Elias area, which is one of the state's best-kept secrets. Often referred to as the "mountain kingdom of North America," Wrangell-St. Elias is the largest in the national park system. It includes North America's largest assemblage of glaciers and the greatest number of mountain peaks above 16,000 feet. From flightseeing over the park's mountains, to river rafting, hiking and dog sled rides, the Copper River Wilderness Lodge also offers a variety of excursions for exploring this pristine land.

In keeping with its dramatic location, Copper River Princess Wilderness Lodge combines the special architectural elements of historic national park lodges with old Alaskan mining buildings to create a unique environment for its visitors. As with Princess' other wilderness lodges, the new property takes full advantage of its spectacular setting while offering guests all the comforts that have come to be an expected part of a Princess Alaska cruisetour. Public areas include a signature two-story "Great Room" featuring a stone fireplace,
25-foot ceilings and stunning views of the surrounding region.

The lodge's 120-seat Two Rivers Restaurant features diverse menu options throughout the day, including Princess' Signature Alaskan Cuisine, with unique dishes such as Buffalo London Broil, Reindeer Osso Bucco, Elk Burgers, Alaskan Clam Chowder, and the area's famed Copper River Red Salmon. For another take on the local flavor, the lodge's gift shop features a variety of souvenir items made by local native Alaskans.

Copper River Princess Wilderness Lodge joins the company's other riverside lodges -- Kenai Princess Wilderness Lodge, Mt. McKinley Princess Wilderness Lodge, Denali Princess Wilderness Lodge and Fairbanks Princess Riverside Lodge. Each property is set in a scenic riverside location and offers premier accommodations plus a wide range of local tour options.

Wilderness lodge stays are a primary component of Princess' unique cruisetour experience, which combines a Gulf of Alaska cruise with a land tour segment of three to ten days. Passengers can choose from 56 cruisetour options for a complete land/sea vacation.
