Nancy B. Perry Appointed Executive Director of The
Virginia Beach Hotel/Motel Association

VIRGINIA BEACH, Va.  April 22, 2002 - The Virginia Beach Hotel/Motel Association (VBHMA) has appointed Nancy B. Perry as its new Executive Director.  The announcement was made by the Board of Directors of VBHMA.

Perry will be charged with overseeing the management and marketing of the 173-member association, fostering communication within the Virginia Beach hotel/motel industry and representing the members� best interests regarding tourism related issues on state and local levels.  Perry will act as the association�s liaison to City Council, Hampton Roads Chamber of Commerce, the Resort Advisory Commission, BeachEvents, the Virginia Beach Restaurant and Resort Retail Associations, the city advertising agency, as well as serve on several city committees and subcommittees.

The Virginia Beach Hotel/Motel Association is a representative trade association serving the Virginia Beach hotel industry to advance and promote ethical practices, education and training of employees; cooperation with local government officials and city leaders; and a spirit of friendly cooperation among members to better serve the public and to unite together for the general welfare and mutual protection of the hotel and motel code of ethics. 

Perry brings an extensive background in non-profit management, marketing and public relations to The Virginia Beach Hotel/Motel Association.  Prior to joining VBHMA, Perry served as Director of Client Services for Member Benefits, Inc., a vendor, which provides marketing and benefit management for the Public Broadcasting system nationwide.  In that position, she was responsible for maximizing and maintaining relationships with more than 125 Public Broadcasting stations across the US and in Canada.  Previously, Perry spent six years at WHRO TV/FM of Norfolk, where she served as Director of Membership, Volunteer and Audience Services.  There she managed all aspects of fund raising, as well as the member services call-center.  She also worked in the development, public relations and marketing department of the Virginia Living Museum in Newport News.

Perry is a lifelong resident of Hampton Roads and resides in the resort area of Virginia Beach.  She holds a Bachelor of Science degree in Journalism with a concentration in Marketing and Public Relations, and a Psychology minor from Radford University.  Perry is an outdoor enthusiast, enjoying water sports and volleyball and recently became associated with the Virginia Beach Horse Show Association as an announcer.  She is a NPR fan and likes to volunteer working on-air during public TV and radio fund drives.  Perry is the mother of two children, the eldest of whom attends Broad Bay Manor pre-school. 

The Virginia Beach Hotel/Motel Association was founded in 1966 as the �Innkeepers of Virginia Beach� by a group of business people who had an interest in preserving the high standards of the hospitality business in the city.  Each year, VBHMA publishes the Virginia Beach Accommodations Directory, with a distribution of 225,000 through the city�s Visitor Information Center, the Convention and Visitor Development office, and via Visitor Centers throughout the mid-Atlantic.  The association is located at 968 South Oriole Drive, Virginia Beach, VA 23451.  Phone (757) 428-8015.  It is located on the World Wide Web at www.va-beach-hotels.com.
