Declaration of Ethical Purchasing Codified by the
International Society of Hospitality Purchasers

NEW YORK, N.Y., November 28, 2001 The board of directors of the International Society of Hospitality Purchasers, Inc. (ISHP), today released its Declaration of Ethical Purchasing Practices for its members.  The declaration reaffirms the organizations code of ethics and articulates the key principle that ISHP believes should govern all business relationships between purchasing agents and their clients.

The statement reads,

When acting as a purchasing agent for our clients, in connection with the performance and obligations under this scope of work, we warrant that we shall not in any way accept undisclosed commissions, fees or awards of any kind from product vendors, service vendors, or any other vendors involved in the project.

Integrity is the cornerstone of our organization, and our ultimate success will be measured by the extent to which we effectively communicate our uncompromising commitment to ethical business practices, said Alan Benjamin, ISHP president.  This declaration codifies that commitment. We wish to make it clear, to both our clients and the industry as a whole, that our organization is firmly committed to the highest ethical standards in our business practices.

ISHP, a non-profit organization, is composed of independent and corporate hospitality purchasing executives, who, as a group, spend approximately $3 billion annually in the hospitality industry.  ISHP members common goal is to enhance the professionalism of hospitality purchasing by establishing high standards in ethics, efficiency, etiquette and
education.  ISHP also works with colleges and universities to establish relevant courses and educational offerings.  In addition, the organization is involved in a variety of community service activities.  Camp Pacific Heartland is the organizations official charity.

ISHP qualifications include five consecutive years of purchasing experience, or three consecutive years purchasing history with 15 years industry experience.  Independent purchasing agents must have served a minimum of five clients in the past year.
