WASHINGTON, DC � December 10, 2001 - New York City has been selected
as host city for the Travel Industry Association of America's (TIA) International
Pow Wow® for 2005. The show will take place May 3�7, 2005.
The city was host to the first-ever International Pow Wow in 1969 and last
hosted it in 1995.
�Bringing International Pow Wow delegates to New York City will demonstrate the recovery and vitality of the City. It has never been more important to prove our unification, dedication and resolve as a City and a nation to provide a safe and rewarding travel experience to visitors from around the globe,� remarked NYC Mayor Rudolph W. Giuliani. As the ultimate one-stop-shopping event for the world�s most popular overseas destination�the USA�International Pow Wow is the U.S. travel industry�s most important event, generating up to $3 billion in Visit USA sales during three days of business. Host cities, such as New York, can expect to receive approximately 10 percent in return spending by international travelers. More than 1,500 top international tour operators from 70 countries come to buy the U.S. travel product from 1,300 of the nation's top airlines, hotels, rental car companies, cruise lines, attractions, etc. International tourism to the U.S. supports nearly 1 million jobs for Americans. �We are forthright in the actions that must be taken to put the Sept. 11 crisis behind us and to show the world our support for the freedom to travel,� stated George E. Pataki, Governor of the state of New York. �As such, hosting International Pow Wow will give us the opportunity to demonstrate our return to normalcy and to the joys of everyday living.� �International Pow Wow is the premier travel trade event in the United
