The origins of Grupo Posadas go back to April, 1967, when
the vision of a man - Gastón Azcárraga Tamayo - began to
become a reality. A man with faith in his country, he believed that Mexico's
main strengths were the service and tourism areas where he trusted Mexico
had the capacity to compete internationally.
Thus, Promotora Mexicana de Hoteles was formed, a company
whose main objective was to enter the tourism sector through the construction
and the operation of a hotel in Mexico City: the Fiesta Palace, now known
as the Fiesta Americana Reforma. The close ties to American Hotels, a subsidiary
of American Airlines, resulted in an association between the two companies
in 1969 and allowed Operadora Mexicana to increase its presence in Mexico.
Operations of the first hotel under the name brand Fiesta Americana started
in 1979. This hotel was located in Puerto Vallarta, Mexico.
In 1982, the projects of the two leading hotel companies
in Mexico - Hoteles Fiesta Americana and Posadas de México - are
merged creating a single company called Posadas de México. The merger
resulted in the creation of the largest hotel company in Mexico with 13
hotels under management.
Posadas' growth, along with the development of new products
targeted to the hotel industry resulted in the creation of the Fiesta Inn
concept of ''Business Class'' hotels.
The effort of an increasingly strong team resulted in
a well-rounded hotel managing company, whose stock started to trade in
the Mexican Stock Exchange in the early nineties. This was the beginning
of one of the most interesting chapters in the company's history: an era
of investment, constant growth, new commercial strategies, technological
innovation and internationalization. |
