Elected Chairman of the Atlanta Hotel Council

Atlanta, Georgia...June 26, 2001...Paul Breslin general manager of the Sheraton Atlanta Hotel has been elected chairman of the Atlanta Hotel Council after serving as vice chairman for the past two and a half years.  In his role as chairman, Breslin will work with the 30 member group, comprised of hotel general managers from downtown and midtown, to focus on short and long-term objectives for the hospitality industry, the number one employer in the city of Atlanta.

As a chapter of the Georgia Hospitality & Travel Association (GHTA), the Atlanta Hotel Councils goal is to work actively with other hospitality-related organizations in the city to build on the success of Atlanta as a business and tourist destination and to educate local government on the importance of Atlantas hospitality industry.  GHTA is a membership-based organization which unites all segments of the travel and tourism industry.  The hospitality industry in Georgia is the states second largest industry, employing nearly 500,000 Georgians.  GHTA is the umbrella organization fro the Georgia Hotel and Lodging Association, Georgia Restaurant Association and Georgia Travel Association.

Notes Breslin, The members of the Atlanta Hotel Council are passionately driven to increase the number of visitors, through business and leisure travel, to our great city.  Atlanta, dollar for dollar, is a phenomenal deal when you consider the package that we have to offer, from our strategic location and global accessibility thanks to the efficiency of  our airport, the numerous quality hotels, the beautiful weather, the depth of our arts and cultural offerings as well as our numerous sporting events and venues.

A seasoned hospitality professional, Breslin joined the Sheraton Atlanta Hotel in December of 2000 and has served in the hospitality industry for over twenty years.  During his career, he has worked with Starwood, Hilton and Omni Hotels in Atlanta, Miami Beach and San Diego.

Breslin is active in his community and currently serves on the board of  the Atlanta Convention & Visitors Bureau and Atlantas Inn for Children and is on the advisory board for Central Atlanta Progress.  He is also a past leader of the mentor program at Georgia States School of Hospitality; past president of the Florida International University School of Hospitality Alumni; former adjunct professor at Miami Dade Community and Florida International University and has been named in the Atlanta Business Chronicles Hospitality Whos Who.

The Sheraton Atlanta Hotel recently underwent an extensive $31 million renovation in the fall of 1999.  Since his appointment as general manager, Breslin has implemented unique programs to reflect the 765-room hotels beyond convention philosophy including the General Manager Hot Line for groups and meeting planners.
